I like Harmony Bloom

It took me a while to warm up to Mario Nieto’s Harmony Bloom but once I discovered that you can greatly reduce the number of MIDI notes and get a nice sparse semi-random flow I took to it like a duck to water.

Anyway, this is one piano sample and one vocal sample in Outgrowth.

Please let me hear your thoughts.🙂

  • I wouldn't have thought of using it like this.
    Good idea and great result!

  • Fantastic work of art! Well done!

  • I have used it in similar ways - it’s amazing what you can do when you really slow the tempo down, and you have done a great job with this.

I love to hear what you do with your minimalist approach.

    Many thanks!

  • I love harmony bloom. The frito expansion (free) sounds so great with midi StrummerFX

Would be interested in seeing how everyone uses it....

  • What you did here was beautiful, Yvonne. <3 I listened twice through. :) I'm "at peace".

  • Agree ... Harmony Bloom is great fun!

Nice work on your composition too!

I love HB too. So good.

I’m feeding it into Strummer, then routing strummer into Rings but no sound ( in AUM) - what am I doing wrong?

  • Do you have latch mode selected?

  • Do you mean here? I’ve tried every option in this menu and none of them work(?)

    Thanks @egobeats

  • Sent u a pm, images were too large for board for some reason

I never knew you were a kindred Seinfeld fan, my friend. :) I grew up with the show and used to watch reruns all the time.

Ah, but getting back to the music you made. It really is serene and lovely. :) And, I too love Harmony Bloom. I didn't know one could use it the way you did though. Making the notes more sparse is a great move imho. :) I could record maybe 2 minutes worth of Harmony Bloom-generated notes into Koala and loop that, once I get back to Ambient that is. (I'm currently a bit sidetracked with client work, lol. <3 )

  • This is awesome Yvonne. Very soothing.

If my memory serves me well, you can also play with the note probability to thin out and add randomness. Another cool trick is to route the different line/arms/bars to different instruments. So you have 2-8 instruments that play the same notes in a kind of offset manner.

I was wondering @rottencat and @jwmmakerofmusic if you have Piano Motifs among your apps. I feel like it would be right up your alley?!

I do have Piano Motifs, but haven't opened it yet, lol. I bought it right before my Ambient music creation burnout. 😅 I'm in my "client work" era at the minute, and then we'll see what happens from there.

No biggie! I just thought about how well you guys use the Frippertronics method and really imagined you sourcing stuff out of Piano Motifs. A few months ago he worked on bringing down the quantity of melodic notes per bar so this could be useful 😎
