Dynasinth and AUM tempo tricks: Ygrane

In ‘The Matter Of Britain’, the body of medieval and legendary tales which describe the foundational myths of King Arthur and the knights of the round table, Ygrane is the mother of Arthur, as initially recounted by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his ‘Historia Regum Britanniae‘.

Three instances of the great and quirky Dynasinth, a Pipa on vox, four Neons on sequencing, the wonderful Hammerhead on beats. And big shout out to @brambos, who told me about a feature of AUM which had completely passed me by, the ability to do per-channel tempo division and multiplication, so I could run my sequences at a glacial 20 bpm, and still have a peppy beat backing from Hammerhead. Seven years in and still learning… :)

  • woah! That is one killer track. 👍🏼👍🏼

Good to see Neon in use. That's such a unique beast. It doesn't seem like many people use it.

@Svetlovska ability to do per-channel tempo division and multiplication, so I could run my sequences at a glacial 20 bpm

I LOVE this feature and use it all the time. Super convenient compared to putting midi into atom to speed it up and slow it down, which I still do when I want finer control.

ALSO being able to PITCH midi channels up or down by semi tones and octaves keeps me rooted in AUM for off the cuff stuff and exploration.

Started to get my head around NEON but got distracted by trying to figure out Fugue Machine Tempo Rubato - which I love.

on a side note, here is a short list of apps I need to still thoroughly need to explore before moving on to the next shiny:

    Gestrument PRO
    Neon
    MidiSteps (4pockets)
    Fugue Machine - Rubato

I feel that aleatoric composition is where @Svetlovska and I have something in common.

    Super track.

I really love the background you give for each track - whether or not I can see the links the story and knowledge is ALWAYS interesting - in the good way.

  • This MIDI adjustment option is a real “game changier” as @thesoundtestroom once declared for a new Cubasis Feature:

Pictures are worth a thousand pokes through the User Interface.

STEP ONE: Open an AUv3 that generates MIDI and select the “Mixer” icon to get the “MIDI Controls” POP-UP

STEP TWO: Select the Gear widget in the upper right corner to get the “Plug In Options” menu

NOTE you can not just do multiples of the AUM Clock but also fractional adjustments of the “Clock Factor” the you can tune to taste.

  • @McD what is "clock factor" and/or rather what can it be used for? Swing, off beats?

It’s there for fractional values of the multiplier. The result is just applied to AUM’s BPM setting:
    For example:

    BPM = 120
Clock Ration = x2 gets you an effective BPM of 240.

Clock Factor = 0.616 and you need a calculator which is why I suggest tuning the\st level of precision with your ears.

My calculator says 240 x 0.616 =147.84 BPM. The default clock factor is just 1.0 but you can make great poly rhythms
To get 3 against 4… 3/4 = 0.75 clock factor. Or any combination you might like. It’s something AUM does that none of my other 20 DAW’s seem to do.

  • @wim : yes, Neon is a great set, forget, see what you get kind of sequencer. Which is my kind of sequencer. :)
@audiblevideo : ah yes, aleatoric composition. That’s what I tell myself I a, doing when I am randomly slamming buttons and sliders around on the latest app I just don’t understand. I am not Jerry Lewis in a banana skin factory. I, sir, madam, or otherwise self defined, am an aleatoric composer, and I’ll thank you to remember that! ;)
@Edward_Alexander : thank you, Edward. Much appreciated. :)
@McD : it’s great to know someone out there realises how it works. I just followed @brambos instructions, and it turned out ok. Genuinely a big step forward in possibilities for me, now I know it is there. Now, if we could just get recordable automation into AUM as well…

In sum, thanks all for the listens and the kind words. Makes my silly little noodlings seem worth the effort.

I have been really enjoying dynasinth's ability to make so many unique sounds- especially with Euclidean Sequencer... been uploading a lot of these world building soundsccapes. It's really good in spacewalk, and for people wanting to worldcraft. Do video game music or ethereal stuff
