Testing some new materials...

First out is watercolours on A2 stone paper, very cool but since the colours just stays on top you have to think on how to secure it as they are very sensitive, a fixative should do, sorry my english is off on holiday today.

Second is A3 coated paper where you can use isoprop to dissolve markers or use alcohol-ink. Very cool stuff, both of them.

Comments

  • Super nice these, and both so different in feel

  • Very cool man. Gonna share this watercolor artist with you that I follow.

  • I like the first one a lot.

  • Nice! @Pxlhg love those colors.

  • Beautiful abstracts. ❤️ I love these so much!

I advocated for the visual arts section here. ❤️ I love making abstract art, usually digitally in Art Rage.

Edit - Also, your art is awesome too.

In many ways it’s the same music and visual arts.
The color of a tone and the tone of a colour. 🙂

Both of these are the very first experience and I imagine time, trial and error will make it a lot better but as starters I'm quite happy - Thank you all for your kind words, it means a lot.

@Meek3 I would appreciate if you, please, start your own thread to show your stuff.

Great work for just starting. Could've fooled me. ❤️

@Meek3 yeah, start a thread in this section with your works, whether a monthly thread, or a megathread, to show off in. ❤️

Alcohol Ink I've dabbled on glass before so, a little experience from there although the paper is so much friendlier.
Stone paper I saw a video from someone quite some time ago and tried to buy it but it wasn't available in Sweden so I got quite happy the other week to finally be able to buy some, it's so cool..paper from stone..

I'll have to give stone paper a go if I try watercolors someday. Does stone paper warp when applying wet medium to it?

No that's the thing, flat as a pancake AND you can use any material you want; be it acrylics, markers, ink, oils, what have you. I though they would be expensive but price was totally okay, hope you find them.

Yeah the American version does but the shipping would have killed me. Swedish Amazon still doesn't have the bigger ones like the A2 I bought. It's a fairly new invention, well the 90s but in the history of paper, that's young 😁

I already bought it elsewhere and I can tell you, you should be real careful buying art material from Amazon, can be ridiculous prices that not even free shipping can help. I'm not sure why as it's the companies selling setting prices but I've seen e.g Sennelier paints selling to very high prices, like they don't want to be there but must (I dunno).

Where would be a good site to buy stone paper from that ships in or to the US? :)

Can't help with that I'm afraid, the ones I bought are white washed with the store brand so I can't see where they're from, but I'm pretty sure they're all made in Asia. Try some googling see what comes up.

That is pretty awesome and badass

Nothing beats the real thing, even more so for some wild experimentations.
But have you tried Rebelle by Escape Motions? It is so lovely
@jwmmakerofmusic since you dig artrage, maybe you would like it too

Thank you so much. I have not tried Rebelle and right now I'm quite glad I got back on the analog track, I'd pretty much given up on it due to health shit but, here we are. The little digital I do at the moment Procreate do satisfy my needs. Rebelle looks pretty awesome though, I give you that 😊

  • It is. But doing it the analog way is sooo relaxing
BTW, never heard of stone paper. Gotta check that out

I'm delaying my wish to do a 2026 version of a travel kit. This post renewed my faith
My portable kit is basically one of these:

But wanna invest in making a better one with half pans

  • I finally built a painting space after buying materials more than a decade ago but have to move again.

I must paint at least a postcard size painting.

What a waste of experience could have gained.

But the light system is good.

    Even in pitch black dark.

Seems you can see vivid colour from the lights attached to board.

Glad I bought a light for each side.

    No light gradient.

  • Nice paintings though.

    Seen other stuff you do.

    Wish I were as good.

Cant wait to set this studio back up ( finally be on my own )

Older and grey but with a flick of paint.

Well thank you, it's not very serious as both are first touch with new material but I look forward to learn more about the pros and cons. Good luck with the studio, I'm painting in my apartment which are not ideal but, it is what it is.

    Cool.

    Still good.

The Caran dache Neocolor II are almost as good as best watercolor ( museum grade obviously ) Just slightly more grainy ( there would be comparisons online )

But can do the same as your pics ( like vivid watercolor )

But can also paint creamy ( or kinda like oil pastel )

Il probably just try watercolor/pen lines/watercolor pencil, to start.

    Thanks for the idea inspiration.
