Album - The Quiet Music of Gently Falling Snow - Now Complete
Inspired by the book of the same name here are (eventually) twelve tracks each of which tries to capture the spirit of the illustrations and words that are so beautifully brought to life by Jackie Morris (www.jackiemorris.co.uk )
Track 1 of 12… The Quiet Music of Gently Falling Snow
‘She had a way about her, could disappear into any crowd if she desired to be invisible. She wore this glamour like a cloak. And so, while the fiddler played up a storm to fill the waiting hours, she sat in a quiet corner, casting her eyes around, tuning her instrument.’

Comments
Just lovely. Creative piece and expressive performance. Very evocative. Going to have to read the book now.
Agreed: absolutely lovely.
Appreciate the comments @boomer and @Tovokas 👍
The book is a collection of very short stories, almost fragments of stories, to go with the art work.
This in turn is based on 12 Christmas cards, one a year that Jackie did for the Help Musicians UK charity
Track 2 of 12… String of Stars
‘They arrived in strange boats on a wave of sound. As they travelled through the archipelago rumours went before them, so everywhere they landed they were met with a welcome. Starved of story, starved of song, knowing there was a great hole in their lives but not how to fill it, the words and music they brought soaked into the people as water soaks into parched earth.’
Well, these are quite lovely.
Looking forward to hearing the rest.🙂
Are they all this beautiful? Keep them coming. Please.
What a great start to this album Tony! Soothing and relaxing.
Thanks @rottencat and @azul3D_Apps 🙏
I think the answer will be ‘almost certainly not’ @boomer 😊
Track 3 of 12… City of Music
‘For a while the people stood silent outside the boundaries of the city walls, waiting, scenting the terrible despair. Then one woman lifted her bow and began a mournful melody as she stepped over the rubble strewn at the entrance and through the city gates.’
Another beauty.
It is my understanding that there will be nine more of these, correct?
An abundance of riches.🙂
Yes 9 more @rottencat although I can’t guarantee the quality 😊
Just two instruments playing and it fills the space with so much emotion, I let the music play out as I started writing this and the beautiful soft sounds of waves in String Of Stars - is it a Curlew I can hear calling?. This is another beautiful track to calm the mind, especially on a Sunday when there is so much trouble and strife in the world, thank you for sharing.
Mike
City of Music, such a full sound with so few instruments, I am just relaxing to that soothing violin, beautiful.
Mike
Many thanks Mike ( @rapidfire ), really appreciate the comments 🙏
It is a Curlew, well spotted !
My favourite bird call, heard the first one of the year a few days ago and saw one fly over this morning.
Track 4 of 12… Cavalcade
‘He sat beside the tiger, leant against its side and began to play, moving his bow across the strings. The tiger began to purr out a drone note and together the two made a wild, gentle music.’
👂🏻 👍🏻
That’s another nice piece of music, that’s a nice mix of different instruments, it has a gentle Irish vibe to it.
I used to play Mandola/Accordion, my wife plays Mandolin/violin and my friend played the uilleann pipes and violin, we played a lot of Irish folk songs, Cavalcade brought back some memories of those Irish music evenings.
Mike
I've listened to three so far and have the fourth queued for my next walk outside... Fantastic walking music, Tony! And you are really on a roll lately... interesting compositions nicely voiced with different instruments (and wildlife)--and well played, as always.
✍️🙏 @MrStochastic
I’d love to hear some of that music @rapidfire 👍
Thank you @lukesleepwalker . The wildlife plays an important part in the book so I tried to incorporate it where I could.
Track 5 of 12… The Time of the Wolf Moon
‘And the power of his drumming would hold back time.
And the horses would dance and the bears would dance and even the wolf, high up in the moon, would howl out a song of praise.
And because of them, because of the music, the world would keep turning.’
Track 6 of 12… The Towers of Song
‘The Place of the Towers of Song, a place of high towers with many windows where people could come to learn to play and to make, music and instruments. A place where people could sing alone or with others, whatever their heart desired.
And birds were always welcome.’
Track 7 of 12… Song of the Northland
‘As she moved across the land she collected not only stories but also any old musical intruments she could find. Anything dusty, damaged, fractured or broken she took and began to fashion a great music box, with cogs and strings and levers and pulleys.’
A new concept, new music from the master of atmospheric music! I really enjoyed it Tony, just listened to all seven and was struck by the fine execution and musical interpretation of the book texts. frenq
Ha ha, that plain brown envelope full of €500 notes that I sent you seems to have worked 😊
Many thanks @frenq 🙏
Track 8 to be posted shortly.
Track 8 of 12… Song of the Angel Cat
‘Their song was a summoning song. Years of silence released. After a while his flute fell silent and he too listened, open hearted and awed, as she continued to sing alone, and she knew that she had found her powerful, beautiful voice again.’
Track 9 of 12… Of Kings and Curses
‘In his forest clearing he played to his heart’s content, and his audience was the trees, the flowers and the woodland creatures, at night the moon and the stars, and even at times the ancient woodland gods who travelled far to hear him, hidden in the forest.’
Track 10 of 12… A Lullaby of Ice and Snow
‘Wherever they went they left behind tales of three beautiful women who danced with a great white bear, who travelled on a cart powered only by music.’
It’s great to look forward to listening to someone’s tracks as I do to yours, Tony. And also wonderful to hear someone’s tracks as he diligently improves his craft. That’s what it’s all about. Plus all the fun.
Really appreciate the comment Mike ( @LinearLineman ) 🙏
Track 11 of 12… The Jester and the Golden Hound
‘So he set off alone, except for his lute and his golden dog for company, following the call of the bear and the dream.’
