Free HILDA Synthesizer Ambient Drone Presets by obstacle Null
In 2026 I told myself I’d try to get better about sharing some of the tools and setups that actually keep my own music moving forward… plugin presets, iOS app setups, and drum and synth patches when it feels genuinely useful to someone else. It’s been a minute since I’ve posted here, and I’m not on this forum as consistently as I probably should be, but before I disappear again or start rambling, I just wanted to come back and contribute something practical.
So… this is the first in what I’m hoping will become an ongoing series of releases from my personal collection… FREE or "pay what you want" depending on the pack. These are things I’ve built up and refined over the last few years while bouncing between work, life, and whatever time I can steal to make music. I’ve been making music on and off for over 20 years, but my main career is in digital film and sound editing, with some animation mixed in here and there. So I’m not coming at this as some “preset guru”… I’m just sharing what I’ve made because it’s helped me, and maybe it’ll help someone else too.
Short story long… this particular upload is a batch of HILDA synth presets I built mainly for ambient and drone. HILDA is still one of my favorite iOS synths, and honestly one of my favorite synths in general on iOS. @brambos made something that feels somewhat simple on the surface but has a lot of depth once you live inside it for a while. A handful of these patches ended up shaping the first part of my "Clots" collection, which has basically been an ongoing pile of ambient and dronish compositions I’ve made over the years… and I plan to keep adding to that series whenever I can. Here it is if you want to have a listen or even have music you'd like to add to it:
I keep saying I don’t want to rant, so I’ll try to actually get to the point…
Here’s my “HILDA obstacle Null” preset pack. It’s 100% free. If you want to support it anyway, that’s appreciated, but it’s never expected. Anything I receive (after the usual Gumroad and PayPal fees) goes toward supporting independent HUMAN artists and musicians. That’s not a marketing line… it’s honestly part of why I bother doing this at all. It doesn’t make me much money, but I’m lucky enough to have a job, so even if it only covers a coffee or a paint brush, I still feel genuinely appreciated for all the work that happens behind the scenes.
End of day, my goal this year and beyond is to put up as much as I realistically can for fellow artists to use freely, at no cost, whenever possible… so if you want to keep up with the drops, subscribe to my Gumroad and/or Patreon page, since that’s where I’ll be posting everything for download and one of my YouTube channels that focuses mainly on sound design and audio experimentation: https://www.youtube.com/@DrownTheRiot
I’m hoping I’ll have enough time this year to record more short demos, explain what things are for, and drop more into the community without turning it into a whole ordeal.
And if you don’t have the funds to support anything right now, that’s completely fine. Seriously. Even just streaming my music, or subscribing to one of my three YouTube channels, or liking something you genuinely enjoy helps push my work to people who might connect with it. Or don't do anything at all which is fine too. I’m not trying to guilt anyone into doing anything… And if none of this resonates with you, I completely understand. I’m not here to convince people. Or beg for cash. I am not a content creator, I have a job luckily but i still try my best to support and be involved in creative community online and in real life here in my home in New York City when time allows.
I mostly do what I do for sanity more than for an audience or "invisible hearts" and "thumbs ups"… but I won’t pretend it doesn’t mean something when it finds a few like-minded people. Especially now, where anonymity and distance can make people harsher than they’d ever be face-to-face… and where negativity seems to travel faster than actual curiosity. Due to anonymity some people somehow feel justified to be hateful, i don't get it and never embrace it for “engagement” like most people tell me to but if putting someone down, especially in an independent creative field makes you happy i cant stop you but I will block you. Blah Blah Blah enough of all that let's get to the goods and if you actually red all of this... thank you for listening...
Alright. For the third time… no more rant.

These are fannntastic, thanks! Nice work 🤙
Sounds awesome and thanks for your generosity. I agree Hilda is really great and on that note I wish more developers would try to go for something new and unique instead of another clone of some 70s or 80s synth we already seen in way too many distributions.
Thanks for sharing these cool patches.. I’ll definitely dive deeper when I get into a creative iPad mindset..
I respect your overall approach + attitude.. doing anything creative for one’s sanity is.. completely sane + logical.. I do hope that everyone has some sort of creative outlet..
Playing my acoustic drum kit has been my only saving grace this long cold winter.. I lose myself completely.. my body + mind flow with possibilities.. I’m fearless to try anything new.. I play things everyday that I’ve never played before.. record some of it to remember + possibly work on later but usually things just disappear into the ether + I’m absolutely fine with that.. knowing that it was brand new to me is enough to satisfy my soul.. and I do it for me.. no one else..
So for you to share your creativity for other artists to use, is a beautiful thing.. it’s inspiring.. keep it up man.. the world needs more of this..
Thanks for your nice work. I went to your Gumroad page and only saw 3 sets of preset packs for Hilda, unless I'm going blind. I saw preset 3 , but it's not free, but I'm willing to buy it too.
Thread works on my iphone which is on ios 26.2, but failed yo open the page on my ipad air ios 18.7.2. Weird.
Thank you @Iwato_Hyena Cheers for the nice patches, some great ones in there.
