“This includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a microSD card slot, an onboard sequencer, an internal microphone, a built-in speaker, and a USB-C connection. They promise that no computer or DAW is required.”

$399, it’s gonna be a game changer!

  • How’s it a game changer from MPC One?

  • Tiny ass launchpad pads, hard pass at $400 for me. The pads are the reason to use mpc, what are they doing?

    Great question!
Answer: MPC Sample is a smaller, portable device that includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, an internal microphone, a built-in speaker, a USB-C connection and MSRP is $399 🔥

Trying to compete with Teenage Engineering's KO-II so it seems, lol.

Yup! Looks like all the MPC heads on IG are sold already lol

Oh man, where did you find the pad size specs, what are they?

You’re right, the pads are smaller than even MPC One pads. I guess Akai figures if TE can get away with small pads, that can too lol

The Sample pads are larger than TE pads at least…

Could the pads be the same ones on the MPK MINI IV USB Keyboard? Link.

They're bigger than the Force's, so I'm okay with that.

An MPC that just focuses on sampling, like classic MPCs, with modern features like slicing/chopping, sample-looping, time-stretching, etc. could be ideal for folks put off by the 'DAW-in-a-box' modern MPCs.

They are not that big lol look at the specs:

Although I feel this may open up a whole new world of finger drumming skill for many 👍 I can’t wait to watch the demos.

And… “Based on technical comparisons and hardware specifications, the pads on the rumored Akai MPC Sample are actually smaller than those on the Novation Launchpad Pro MK3.”

  • Just found this on Facebook.

Repurposing another product's parts seems more economical than manufacturing a new part, though several of the MPCs have different sized pads. Wonder if the sensors underneath are different...

I will say, if they are sensitive pads that are actually playable, the size won't matter to me beyond a point. This size seems fine IF the sensors are actually good and not sloppy with double/mistriggers and a good velocity range.. I'm still intrigued but seeing the pads as a cost cutting measure seems like a red flag.

  • Based on this image the size looks great!

  • that's the image that made me hesitate at all, looks really bad in comparison imo, surface area matters

Probably not the device for you 🙏
Do you already own an MPC?

nah i have been waiting for this device to shake out before grabbing a hardware sampler, sp404mk2 is singing to me though. i use yamaha fgdp-30 for finger drumming. Great surface, 18 pads instead of 16.

Ahhh I feel you. I have an MPC One and recently found an SP404 MK2 on Facebook Marketplace for only $300! One thing that stands out to me is that AI says the SP404 is larger than the MPC Sample, soooo… at the same time reuseable batteries in the 404 is 🔥🔥🔥

  • Exciting, the MPC Sample pads have 3D sensing like the Live 3 and XL!

augh, some AI bullshit speculation, rip

if they put their flagship technology in a $400 box i'll eat a hat, sell my ipad and buy one this month.

  • edited March 16

    I like the layout!
It reminded me of the KO-II instantly as well, except this one follows a more classic concept as it seems.
    I wonder how they'll compare.

Would I buy it? Hmmm. A new iPad Mini is expected to be out this year, most likely with great microphone (stereo?) and speaker sound, and no, I don't think I would give up an iPad for it 😉

I’m reading around that the MPCe pads are standard on MPCs going forward, we shall see 🙏

  • All the various videos are looking nifty! But, will have to wait and see about project/stem export in April. That may be the deal breaker for me. Otherwise looks like a super nice portable option. I love the USB C recording/midi part. Could be a great way to get iOS stuff onto desktop... but no idea what the MPC desktop software export situation is like.

  • edited March 24

So +200$ USD for the desktop software to get stem export? Tired of this whole 'ecosystem' approach to hardware these days. Plus it just adds another layer of future obsolescence. Pass.

Hopefully someone will create a free app and export to Ableton Live

I'm on windblows from microslop so dont want any more hardware dependant on software or a crap os/company

Definitely on the big boys, asking for them on a $400 box was crazy though, no way they were putting them on this haha.

This looks pretty great but not for me, I'm content with Koala :D

I don’t need it because my SP404 MK2 is very similar, but the workflow seems smooth especially with an update coming to integrate Sample with other MPC devices. I like how Andy played Minimoog standalone on his iPhone from Sample, basically using the iPhone as a plugin.
