BYOD Crashing on IOS26 Bummer...

Hello friends,
Been off a while but just recently I've gone back to working on my Loopy Pro ToneX Based mini Pedalboard. Not sure if anyone is having the same issue. I have a Loopy Pro project hosting several apps like delays, reverbs etc and like 5 ToneX instances for dual amp and several effects. My CPU for the most part hovers around max 50ish or so @ 24 bit 512 Resolution @ 96khz sample rate on an iPhone 12 Max Pro.

Everything has been good except today, when I enabled my BYOD pitch shift it literally shot my CPU way up. In one occasion to the point where it went past 💯 and froze my sound. Once I disabled it, it worked fine.

Is anyone having CPU issues with IOS26 and BYOD?
Anyone recommend a solid Auv3 Pitch Shifter on iPhone?

  • Any particular reason 96Khz sample-rate is needed?!
    (I doubt You can clearly hear the difference between 48k and 96k so it's more or less waste of CPU).

    96K with a 512 buffer gives you the same latency as 48k with a 256 buffer...

    Thanks Samu, not really, I just figured if my Xtone Pro audio midi interface could handle it I'd figure why not? Maybe that will do the difference! Thanks so much!

  • There's a slight difference between 44.1kHz and 48kHz to my sensitive ears, but no difference between 48kHz and 96kHz. I prefer to work with 48kHz 24-bit/32-bit audio in fact. Unless you're working with audio meant for a BluRay production on a souped up Desktop, no real need for 96kHz imho.

    Anyways my brother in Christ, how've you been doing otherwise?

  • You should probably disable oversampling in BYOD when using 96 kHz. It's enabled by default.

    Thanks brother! Been so busy playing electric guitar 🎸 with the worship team. But I've put my mini Tonex Pedalboard on the background as I had some issues with it and noise. Got a great power supply and noise is basically gone. But just yesterday, the darn BYOD pitch app started acting up. It has been rock solid for ages.

    I haven't had a chance to try the 48k 24 bit 512 or 256 mode but as soon as I get it going will report back on stability. The pitch shifter is my main and favorite effect for my leads especially as a lot of the cover songs we do use it a lot. It's basically a POG effect but it needs to be rick solid if I'm gonna depend on it live. I always take my main board which is a hybrid analog pedals and HX stomp for modulation effects but my Tonex iPhone setup always gets the young worshippers so curious to see how I got it all setup 😆.
    They get blown away when they see the Loopy Pro user interface project I've setup to trigger various things!

    Well, we got a massive youth conference this weekend and was planning to use it that's why I got so bummed man. But that's ok, always good to have a backup.

    As a grandpa now, it's fun to still rock for Jesus man! To see all these new generation of kids getting into serving God and becoming musicians!

    Thanks! Yeah I have it at default 1x oversampling. But It may be that my iPhone 12 is not up the task anymore. Maybe IOS26 is using too many resources in the background.

    I love that so much, mate! :) I mean, I'm sorry to hear about the issues with BYOD and all that, but of course you're in my prayers, and I'll pray for things to go smoothly this weekend no matter what you use. 🙏 It's so awesome to bring new generations to Christ.

    Anyways, hopefully the 48kHz from 96kHz thing will resolve the issues.

    Pitch shift is notoriously hard on cpu for most applications.
    Using it live it is not uncommon to see spikes of 35-50 percent on single threaded audio applications, if you have changed anything else about your setup, you may just be toeing the line and need to scale back a little bit. Maybe use some busses.
