"Hidden" Neural Amp Modeler AUv3 by Rafael Guilherme Bertholdo
I stumbled upon this AUv3 completely by accident on Reddit, where the author posted about it 7 (!!) months ago.
Don’t be misled by the app’s name in AppStore, because as the review says, it really does install AUv3 for NAM. Some of you might recognize the layout from PC/Mac. For $2, it’s a no-brainer.
The CPU requirements are roughly the same as NAM XT single mode and it works flawlessly in Loopy Pro

Why am I confused by this?
I understand NAM captures but not sure how or why the ability to play them (as auv3 no less) in an app named “studio camera”?!
Not complaining, just confused.
You are not alone
For me is enough that this NAM AUv3 loader works as it should in AU host.
EDIT: I invited dev to discuss here. We will see.
Sorry if this is obtuse, but if I already own NAM XT is there any reason for me to pick this one up?
There’s a free light version. 😎✌🏼
Now? Probably not. Personally, I don't like the pace of development of Artera DSP. I hope things will be better here, and maybe we'll even see support for the Tone3000 API. In any case, I'm glad there's an alternative to NAM for iOS, and I was happy to support the developer.
But there is no mention about NAM loader there.
Agreed with your Artera take. Just saw a screenshot, that’s the popular desktop NAM loader! Neat!
The light version appears to be a video recording app. Maybe the dev got his apps mixed up? 😎✌🏼
The standard version seems geared towards streaming. It also acts as an AUv3 FX host, which I found very interesting.
Yep I agree. Artera doesn’t seem to bother too much. Also not about feedback. On desktop there have been state saving issues for a long time without any fix. I rather would avoid products by them in the future.
But this one.. what a weird app. Did they try to hide it behind that video app interface? Is it working normal otherwise?
Hey guys, I’m the creator of Studio Camera. First of all, thank you so much for all the support — it really means a lot.
I originally built Studio Camera because I couldn’t properly record my band rehearsals using the iPhone camera with the sound from my sound desk. If you’re curious, here’s one of our latest rehearsals(I'm not a professional musician BTW): https://youtube.com/watch?v=dhhdp795kMY&t=705s
Along the way, I realized I could take it further by adding an AUv3 plugin with support for NAM models. That way, I can record myself playing with great tone directly on my phone, without needing a PC or Mac.
Right now I’m also expanding the AUv3 side — there’s already a delay plugin available on the App Store, and I’m currently working on adding a noise gate, boost, and overdrive plugins as well.
@rafabertholdo - welcome!
I just picked this up and loaded up a twin model from tone3000 in loopy pro.
Um, amazing!!! I think I can finally be free of Tonex on my iPad. This sounds so good I can’t believe it. Thank you! I will check out your other apps.
Welcome Rafael, that was fast, I'm glad you are here!
When you mentioned AUv3 side .. do we hope for Tone3000 API support for your NAM Loader?
Thanks for the suggestion about Tone3000 API support. I’ll definitely take a look at it and see what’s involved.
Just as a bit of context, Studio Camera and the NAM Loader are side projects for me—I work on them in my spare time alongside a full-time job and family. So development tends to move forward when I can find the time, but I’m always interested in ideas and feedback from you guys .
Tkx for bringing it up!
@rafabertholdo - does the delay sync to the host?
I will say I’m glad you brought more attention to this @filo01 it did go under the radar, especially considering the price point.
Welcome @rafabertholdo congats on the cool app release and welcome to the forum.
Hold on…? did you record that video of all band members with just the internal iPhone mic and your app? If so That’s pretty dang cool.
All the free NAM and IR downloads you could possibly want, submitted by users under careful instructions. Enjoy.
Tone3000
Yeah — but the iPhone wasn’t using the internal mic. It was connected to a Zoom LiveTrak L‑20.
Each channel from the mixer goes into Studio Camera, and we mix everything directly inside the app while recording the video, backing vocals were insanely loud lmao.
In theory we could also put FX on every individual channel (compression, delay, NAM amps, etc.), but that rehearsal people just wanted to start playing, so we kept it simple and just did a quick mix.
Ok. Right on, Good to know. Pretty cool app you’ve created, cheers.
Great! The Tone3000 API allows developers e.g. to implement searches within the Tone3000 database and download models directly into their applications. It’s similar to Tone.NET for ToneX. The first apps of this are already appearing on the desktop: https://youtube.com/watch?v=bTYTUaLtiAo

@rafabertholdo
It appears that the model is the only setting saved/restored when an AUv3 preset is saved/restored.
Would it be possible to have all settings as part of the AUv3 preset?
@rafabertholdo Sorry for having so many requests…
Would it be possible to add double-tap on the dials to return them their default position as well? Also, the ability to type a value would be helpful.
Thank you for giving these requests some consideration. I understand you work on this time permitting.
This would sell WAY better if the NAM loader was a standalone AUV3. Is this a licensing issue that requires it to be embedded in another app?
In any case, very happy we have an alternative to IK Multimedia. I get the feeling this is just the beginning of a new era in sound and tone shaping. Maybe one of the better things that comes from AI development.
I wouldn't really call a NAM loader an alternative to full-fledged amp modelers. NAM profiles are captures of an amp at one particular set of settings. You can't get the full realistic response of the amp at different settings from a single NAM capture.
There are capture technologies that can model an amp at more than a single setting. That's not what this is.
yeah, thats posssible. I'll add it on my roadmap. RN i'm working on the tone3000 integration.. I've seen some other people requesting a standalone NAM, wouldnt it be better to load the AUv3 on GarageBand or AUM? I'll try doing a similar of what I did to delay but with NAM plugin, but that will be at the bottom of my roadmap. As for the double tapping, that code is from NAM itself, I just embed it to my code, so it's more complicated.
Thanks, appreciate you considering these features.
For me, I only care about auv3 in loopy pro and maybe my daw (cubasis) and possibly aum. Not sure why a standalone NAM is desirable on iOS, but I’m sure it is to someone? Having a full auv3 save/restore would be amazing.
The tone3000 integration would be awesome as well.
Thanks again - if you ever use TestFlight I’d be more a willing tester.
+1
@rafabertholdo Picked up your delay the other day and the Overdrive today. Both sound amazing. The overdrive into a nam twin model with my Les Paul is so responsive and expressive, just like a real amp. The delay sounds great as well, easy to use.
Thanks for your work on these apps!
