My new apps are released - dh slice and dh spread
I needed a tool for slicing audio in the 90’s way with a very linear approach like an old sampler. So i made a ‘html’ version and then suddenly realised i need this as an app too. Its taken a very long time to get it to where it currently is and i have some updates to fix for a later future update - AU hosting of FX and printing the effects upon export.
Currently its a very capable slicer that works like the old Akai samplers would and you can play each slice independently with a midi keyboard or the built in keyboard in AUM (C2 onwards) or Cubasis (C1 onward).
I have managed to impliment a standalone version and an AU3 version.

I’m excited to release this, my first apps.
I have another ready too that is for creating Decent Sampler instruments that completely removes the need to write your own XML! Its a visual builder that has sample import for Beatmaker 3, SF2, SFZ and samples. It has a dedicated GUI builder that lets you place knobs and assign them.

That’s amazing, you needed something, and you went and made it, that’s old school! I’m excited
These look great! 😎✌🏼
Both of these look fun. I could definitely see myself using the Decent Sampler instrument creator.
On the slicer: Will it have the ability to trigger a random slice à la Flexi Sampler in Drambo?
Excited to check these out when they release.
Now, this one sounds interesting!
Absolutely interested!!
Nice work 👍
Awesome, @dblonde
Amazing! I'm definitely interested!
Is it like an updated version of reslice or segments?
I’ve been looking for something similar like that.
not random but you can shuffle the slices in the main app to new possitions to get interesting possibilities.
This looks great.
That slicer looks great! It reminds me of Propellerhead Recycle. Rex file export would be an awesome addition to the mobile producing toolkit:)
if you want to look at this early in testflight pm me an email and I can add you.
Expect my DM soon. ❤️
Yes! @dblonde
Congrats on what you achieved here & this looks as useful as neat — up for joining the TF!
ok so slice needed a new build because I found some bugs and hopefully fixed them in the main app. The AU portion had also a few tweaks. Spread app is good to go and both are in review from today, so hopefully you can critique them in about 48hrs time. I will get the invites ready and hopefully you can see something soon. Thank you for the patience but I didnt want to show you all something that I knew had issues.
So I will be back in 48hrs to confirm the Testflights and release.
Thank you for the interest, it means a lot
the testflight is active now for the slice app. I really hope its working for you all:
Description: slice turns any audio file into a MIDI-playable instrument.
Load a sample, set your region, detect hitpoints, and commit your slices. Each slice maps chromatically from C1 upward, ready to play from any MIDI controller or your DAW's piano roll.
CORE FEATURES:
Automatic hitpoint detection with adjustable threshold and sensitivity - drag and move and double tap remove.
Manual green and red locators for precise region selection - you can trim the sample there too.
Destructive trim to isolate exactly the audio you need.
Zero-crossing snap eliminates clicks at slice boundaries and transient, beat and zero crossing snap.
Stackable per-slice fade-in and fade-out for precise pop removal +/- 5ms per tap
Loop playback that respects your start and end markers.
Real-time waveform display with slice overlay and playhead tracking double tap a slice to select it.
AUv3 PLUGIN
Runs as an Audio Unit instrument inside any compatible host.
Full state save and restore — your slices survive project close and reopen and cubasis freeze.
Freeze and unfreeze support for offline rendering in Cubasis.
MIDI note triggering with polyphonic voice allocation - can use midi note input in cubasis and use the built in keyboard.
Visual slice feedback on incoming MIDI notes = slices start at C1 (yamaha convention and in AUM C2 Roland convention) chromatic from slice 1.
STANDALONE APP
Load audio from Files or iCloud.
Preview and audition before committing - this empties undo buffer by design so native engine can handle AU3 effects and latency.
Full editing suite with EQ, FX, and envelope controls in main app - currently hidden but will be re-added in next update.
Export individual slices as WAV files.
WORKFLOW
Load any audio file.
Set green and red markers around your region.
Trim to selection.
Detect hitpoints or place them manually.
Commit slices.
Play via MIDI — each slice mapped from C1 chromatically.
Whether you are chopping breaks, slicing vocals, or building kits from field recordings, slice gives you a fast, focused workflow with no clutter.
Works with Cubasis, AUM and any AUv3-compatible host. Did not work in N-Track for some reason?
Would love this on iPhone! It would solve all my breakbeat slicing problems as far as I can tell!
@KRPT i will look into it.
looking forward to this
Randomise note assignment would be cool. So can play any key and get a mystery prize. In built sequencer would rock but I get that is not really the point.
@Ailerom actually i do have a beta version which is just AU and has a tracker style sequencer for the slices. I wasnt sure if anyone would like that?
Just AU or Standalone. Standalone would be cool. I for one would be into that, especially if it has a randomise function.
That sounds fun
Randomize is there already, i just called it ‘shuffle’ in the app. It randomly shuffles the slices around to create interesting options. User can also move the slices they want move independently. AU does not have that feature as you can just place midi notes where you wanted so randomize is redundant there. Or use a randomize midi app into slice AU.
@dblonde hey mate, congratulations on the two new releases. They both look great, and useful. It might be a good idea to change the thread title to something like “ My 2 New Apps Available Now” or add the word “Released” or something like that so casual scrollers will immediately know both apps are out and ready to be purchased. Cheers!
And a link too! @dblonde
Done
@dblonde What I'd love may not be possible, or popular. I'd like the standalone to be able to set and position loop markers, then randomise them, either change positions, or a background randomisation of notes, or sample positions. Then a play, loop play, stop transport. Is there a chance?
