iOS update warning
The new iOS update 26.4 switched my phone to Automatic Update. That has not happened to me in some time. Beware! 😎✌🏼

Comments
Yes, at least I got a big splash screen telling me about it, but definitely turn that back on download only or only notify!!
No changes were made to any of the automatic updated settings on the 5 devices I updated to iOS/iPadOS26.4 yesterday...
Always best to check those settings anytime one updates.
I'll hold off on 26.4 until I know things work smoothly on it.
Just happened updating my M2 iPad Pro.
My Mac absolutely refuses to install Tahoe 26.4 for some reason. Keeps saying the download fails and to check my connection but WiFi is solid. M2 Mini that’s admittedly very tight on storage.
Edit: Mac Mini finally updated. I might have needed to let the iPad finish updating first for internet bandwidth or some tech dark magic.
Edit 2: Mac Mini also turns on automatic updates updating to Tahoe 26.4 with a splash screen warning and option to select “download only”
26.4 feels noticeably faster and snappier on my iPad Air 5, anyone else? Did Apple finally release something that didn’t make anything worse than before?😂

mine asked for age verification via credit card?????? since when is a credit card used for that????
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/125662
I hate that stuff.
Credit card age verification has been used from the dawn of time for porn sites (according to a friend🤔).
A "friend", ahem, sure. 😂
What are the banks always telling us about passing on our credit card details !
My age verification was automatic by the length of time I had had my Apple account.
Are we talking about emotional or physical age here?
Why do they keep doing this?
Age verification via credit card, driving license or length of time you’ve had your Apple account for only apparently. Can’t help but feel a lot of people won’t be covered by those limited methods?
Because of the UK Online Safety Act, and to get ahead of the curve of court cases.
For those of you who have been met with the new age verification requirement, are you in the UK? Or are you in one of the (currently) few US states in which such a law has been passed?
If neither, which I fear, then this is an even bigger dungdrop.
I am from the UK
I’m in the UK. It worked it out on how long I’ve had my account, FWIW.
Uk
My very thoughts…. might be tricky.
i'm in UK and this age verification is now on my ipad.....with no credit card/drivers license or national ID...I'm just going to have to live with the restrictions...whatever they may be
Ive been in contact with Apple and apparently this is coming to macbooks and imacs too!
pretty sure Ive had my appleid for more than 18 years but they saying they cant authorise that way!
Flipping hell. Does having a debit card work, or it needs to be a credit card? National ID - I assume a passport should work?
Wow, seems debit cards and passports are not accepted, that's absolutely bonkers, and yet another nail in the coffin for this platform...
As I said, lots will surely be unable to comply with such restricted verification methods available. Maybe the politicians are hoping to use it as a sneaky way to argue again for a mandatory national ID card being necessary?
I read somewhere that it is more likely simply due to the ID methods the 3rd party verifiers used by Apple require. Passports are apparently more work to verify than some other ID types. Debit cards don't prove age in the UK as under 18s can have a debit card. Really not sure if the ins and outs of it all though. What I do know is that, as things are at present, this is yet another shit show...
Ah, it’s Apple being awkward is it? Presumably, as it’s happening because of the online safety act, it will happen on Android as well (if it hasn’t already - I don’t have a device running the latest Android version)? Will be interesting to see what methods are offered there.
Definitely a mess though, completely agree
apparently their tech team is looking into more methods of accepting ID but I'm not sure I want to until I know exactly how the restrictions affect me....the only official word from apple is that I won't be able to download 18 rated apps (not sure I have any of those anyway) and also 18 rated shows if I use apple tv (which I don't)
I've heard popping a PayPal credit card in your Apple wallet automatically gets detected and verified but I not checked it myself
You think Android won’t do it?
Graphene OS are the only ones to publically come out to say they WON'T do it. Even if it means losing sales
