Exciting, the MPC Sample pads have 3D sensing like the Live 3 and XL!

    Who told ya that? :open_mouth:

Near the end of this video, hopefully it’s true 🙏:

augh, some AI bullshit speculation, rip

if they put their flagship technology in a $400 box i'll eat a hat, sell my ipad and buy one this month.

I’m reading around that the MPCe pads are standard on MPCs going forward, we shall see 🙏

Definitely on the big boys, asking for them on a $400 box was crazy though, no way they were putting them on this haha.

This looks pretty great but not for me, I'm content with Koala :D

    I was wishful thinking 🫣🤪🤣

  • Had it in my basket on Amazon uk from 3am. Kept waiting for the videos as super hyped for it. But owning an Mpc one+, after watching the videos I felt that it actually wasn’t as small and portable as I wanted. As I have a dirtywave m8 and Polyend tracker mini. Looks like fun but nothing really enough for me to spend the money. I am now considering the picotracker advanced which is super small, and I love trackers. The problem is getting a unit in the uk without paying £200 to get the damn thing delivered

Yer that puts me off getting a M8 the import cost to the UK.

  • Yes and the 2nd hand market for m8’s is horrible in the uk. I want to get the model 02 and buy directly to support the team but import etc is crazy expensive

I don’t need it because my SP404 MK2 is very similar, but the workflow seems smooth especially with an update coming to integrate Sample with other MPC devices. I like how Andy played Minimoog standalone on his iPhone from Sample, basically using the iPhone as a plugin.

This! That functionality is what got me interested. iPhone/iPad plugins in conjunction with the MPC Sample will be great fun. Now excuse me while I fire up Thor and iMS-20......

  • I grabbed it at guitar center yesterday, mainly because i can’t sit in my studio/house all day and need to get outside, and i travel for work so much. I was carrying around the live 2 and my iPad but the live 2, even tho technically portable, is still a monster.
The sp404 is portable too but you have to bring batteries or a battery pack and has no speaker…

So this is the one for simple workflow and major portability. It’s smaller than it looks on any of the videos… and the speaker is good enough to get things moving. Switch to headphones or a portable speaker when you can and you’re all set.

I sat on my porch and jammed for hours last night and used it today in my car on my work break. Its sweet and inspiring. Takes no time to get something sweet going, and I’ll send stuff to my live 2 later if i feel like it needs more.

Anyone who wants to make beats on the go and not carry around an iPad, this is the move for sure.

I sold my KO, Ableton move, sp404, and other portable things fast, this one is staying around for sure

  • Yah despite the software requirement for stems export... I sure have been thinking this would be niiiiice... I may just bite one day. Heh, there is always that one unchecked box with all these things though.

You got me thinking about trading in my KO II and SP404MK2 to get an MPC Sample. I’m pretty much MPC workflow and Ableton Live workflow 50/50…
    🧐

  • Another cool Andy video:

  • Those of you who have one already, how does it compare to Koala?

    🧐

The KO was not for me, i didn’t want to memorize their language and symbols lol just name the stuff what it is. Plus the buttons aren’t fun for me, just give me pads! I was able to return mine thankfully, hassle free since i got one with the trashed fader.

Ableton move…. Hated it 😂 sold it fast.

404MK2, great device i wish i still had mine

Id say keep the 404, sell the others… get the MPC S! Its to much fun man, and simple. You can just create and not get hung up on menus, and how tos, it has its limitations but what dosent and akai is sure to update and support it for a long time as they historically do.

Koala is great. I rarely finish anything on it tho, i really want the physical pads and hardware, all in one. I don’t really like bringing my expensive iPad all over the place either.

But some differences, the MPC isn’t as fast at resampling individual pads but it can be done.. you can’t chain effects in busses,

Really depends on your workflow with koala but i find myself more productive on the sample so far. If you have any specific questions i might know the answer tho

    Yeah, I’m feeling what you’re saying 💯
KO is pretty to look at but the TE design language is kind of a hassle. I do love my SP404MK2, it’s a tank, I love the workflow, and I got it for a great price ($250). Hmm 🤔

  • Traded in my SP404MKII for one of these and I have no regrets. Always been more a MPC guy ever since I got the 1000 in 2005 so it the move made sense. The workflow feels so much more intuitive than the SP404, it’s smaller, cheaper and has a battery. They both have some things the other doesn’t do or do as well but for me the MPC Sample is exactly what I would’ve thought a portable MPC would be like 20 years ago. MPC 500 doesn’t count lol

I get it! I have a crazy hybrid setup and everything runs through my Tascam Model 24 mixer. I say this to say I see all my gear as separate music instruments instead of overlapping devices. Each sampler has its own character. I’ll probably end up keeping everything and adding the MPC Sample, but I use everything I got 🙏

Well snap, looks like someone made a stem exporter...?

Was going to pick up a sample but I already have the live 3 and these babies are sold out every where so I was like for another hundred I could get an sp 404 mk2 and I did…..only to find out they too are on back order until the end of April. I will wait a year and pick up a used sample if I still want one. But the roland will be my third sampler along with the mpc and a digitakt. I never thought my sampler collection would be this crazy but they are making affordable gear.

  • I was so close, but then I realized I can do all that I need with Koala, and some AU fx. It's so close to Koala in hardware that it's hard not to buy one though.

Okay I got an MPC Sample and truly have to say it is absolutely fantastic! It is super easy to use, feels well made, sounds great, and just makes sense.

I can tell many hours were spent thinking about the workflow. It is very intuitive, everything just goes together well. I think my other portables will collect dust. Probably the easiest sampler yet. The factory sounds were provided by some heavy hitters too.

All of the social media posts are not fluff, this is truly a game changer but you have to try it, preferably if you are into sampling only. I hope it wins some kind of design award!

    $399 is the perfect price.

  • @Stuntman_mike How does it compare to Koala? Is there anything that really stands out as better (or worse)?

    Great question!

    • I love Koala although I would say MPC Sample is faster to understand from a beginners perspective and actual pads are more fun to play than the screen.

    • I’m not a beginner by any means, but this workflow is very efficient and tactile in all the right ways.

    • Almost a knob per function, the shift functions are minimal and not annoying.

    • It’s a focused environment where you either load a sample or record one; less steps to load a sample.

    • The sequencer is great, basically 128 tracks and the look back feature is a game changer: it can recall your last 30 seconds of noodling like Ableton 💥

If you are killing it with Koala, no need to spend $400, but if you would like a standalone sampler that is just the right size, fun, easy to use and you can spend $400 without causing any financial damage, do it!

  • I’m thinking I truly don’t need my SP404mk2 nor KO2 anymore 😅

  • I’m digging the mpc sample. Pretty nice to sit on couch with actual hardware and make beats. I’ve done the same with koala on iPhone and iPad but something about hardware feels good. One big difference off the bat is I don’t need to make a video to get YouTube or any sound from another app into koala. Plug in the usb-c and you can capture any sound you want.

I hate that koala gets put against the mpc sample. Two different pieces but can be used together. They can work hand in hand. And moving sounds between devices is pretty easy with the files app.

This is my travel setup. iPhone and mpc sample. Pretty powerful to me.
