LP-33 Sim by Avi Bortnick (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6761288301
Capture the gritty, coveted sound of the iconic early-2000s "303" phrase sampler right inside GarageBand or your favorite Audio Unit host. LP-33 Sim is a deeply researched audio unit plugin featuring 8 painstakingly reverse-engineered effects, headlined by the prized Vinyl Simulation processor.
Countless hours of A/B testing, spectral analysis, and machine-learning-assisted matching went into replicating the exact sonic character of Vinyl Sim and the other choice effects. From the aggressive, pumping compression that practically defines lo-fi hip-hop, to the warm wow-and-flutter and authentic dust and crackle, LP-33 Sim delivers the true gold standard of beatmaking.
LP-33 Sim takes several of the original effects further by adding full stereo widening for modern production workflows. Wrapped in a beautifully nostalgic interface that harks back to the golden era of hardware samplers, it brings the authentic warmth, quirk, and crunch that defined a generation — even if you've never touched the original hardware.
Key Features:
• The Ultimate Vinyl Sim: A painstakingly faithful replication of the hardware's legendary ducking compression, pitch flutter, crackling, and lo-fi grit.
• 8 Meticulously Replicated Effects: Vinyl Sim, Flanger, Chorus, Lo-Fi, Isolator, Pitch, FilterDrive, and Radio
• Modern Stereo Enhancements: Classic mono effects expanded for wide, modern stereo fields, and AM/FM Radio simulation
• ML-Assisted Precision: Exacting sonic matching built through rigorous spectral analysis and A/B listening tests.
• Retro Interface: An intuitive, hardware-inspired UI that feels instantly familiar.
Brought to you by Avi Bortnick — a longtime user of the 303 phrase sampler with the John Scofield band.

Is the dev John Scofield's rhythm guitarist and effects guy?
Wait really?!
(Had no idea bout the hardware this was based on. Watched some videos; very cool unit/history, app seems rad as well!)
Yeah, I find it hard to get excited about multi effect units like this at this point, and have no attachment to, desire for, or nostalgia for the hardware it's based on, but it sounds fabulous, from the dev's demo, really rich sound.
Yes that’s him
He also a great metronome app, with advanced compound meters
Maybe someone who is into this stuff and ha used both could comment on the differences between this and Sketch Audio Doctor Vibe - based on the SP-404 Vinyl Sim, I think.
One difference that comes to mind is — this is $10 CAD and Doctor Vibe is $50 😂
The same developer also did Echo Pitch. Wonderful but only IAA:

Whoa… cool!
There's definitely that hahaha
Ah, good spot, yes I would use that a lot of it was AUv3, it was great. As it is, I never end up touching it
Probably easy to recreate in something like Transit 2, Bleass Tides, a delay send w various auv3s, etc but that UI is so immediate and straight to the point. Since this new fx is auv3, maybe the dev will pop up on the forum and we could do some persuaaading… haha
I recall it being quite buggy a while ago but I took it out for a spin and it works great. Enough with the derailing.
Wait… Doctor Vibe is $50?! I got it when it was cheap…when did THAT happen?
That’s Canadian, but yeah, the price did increase a lot. App Raven IAP price history to the rescue:
Hi Gav, where is the demo that you liked the sound of?
Avi Bortnick's music is well worth a listen. I knew I had heard the name as soon as I saw the thread. I stumbled across is stuff a long time ago and absolutely loved it.
Funny, I don't see any solo albums on the WikiPedia page. I'm gonna have to do some digging to figure out what it was I listened to.
Agreed, sounds great!
Well heck. This one is good and lots of fun. When I think about degrading tracks, no way do I ever feel like stringing together a bunch of FX. This will be nice to have when that itch hits. It sounds great. I kind of wish you could stack FX in a single instance, but that's ok.
The Lo-Fi is the type of bit crush I've been hearing in my head, but never get out of other apps. Sure, you could get a more tunable and realistic vinyl simulator, but tbh I'd never bother with anything more than this. Pitch ... eh ... I don't really get that one. I did manage to get a drum track to sound convincingly like a pond full of frogs though. That'll be useful for sure. I really like the Filter Drive. That also is something that fits the sound in my head but can never really get in other apps with a filter drive control. (Take that with a grain of salt - my head is definitely not typical when it comes to sound design.)
This is easily my favorite FX purchase in some time.
So if I’m getting what your saying, you can’t get a flanger going and then hit the Lofi button and get that mixed in as well? You’d need an instance of the app for each section? If so, is that an issue at all DSP wise? How does it handle with CPU usage?
Oh baby!! 😎✌🏼
Yep.
Depends on the FX. Vinyl, Filter Drive, Lo-Fi, and radio are light (under 10% on iPad 9th Gen). Pitch, Isolator, Chorus, and Flanger are way up there, between 25% and 30%.
[edit] Now I trie Vinyl and it's up at 30%. So probably some CPU scaling going on. Anyway, it does seem like it's a pretty heavy hitter. That's OK, I'm up for it since I'll be using it sparingly anyway.
[edit 2] the Radio FX is so cool. Even has an AM / FM switch and runs at 1%-2% CPU. 😎
One thing it could really use is a wet/dry control! I'll be wanting to use it on busses and it's way easier if full wet is possible.
Thanks for takin the time 🤙 @wim
It’s been updated:
-improvements to the Lo-Fi>Crush Sound
-bug fixes
That Radio effect is worth the price of admission alone. I am totally fine with having to run the 8 modeled fx that come in one package for $10 as separate instances. Independent “device hiss” setting is chef’s kiss. 😘 Sign me the heck up!
ETA: midi mappings in AUM don’t appear to work, though. They’re available, and appear to learn, for example, the CCs coming from MidiLFOs, but the plugin knobs don’t actually turn and the sound doesn’t change. That’s a disappointment. 😔 I’ve reached out to the dev 🤞
ETA2: Dev responded in a comment on this Sound Test Room video, saying a fix is on the way 😍
