A long one (oo-er missus): The Fenlands

Casadastrophobia is the very specific fear, not to be confused with agoraphobia, of falling into the sky. It may be triggered by landscapes of vast open spaces, unbordered fields, unbroken views to the horizon and wide featureless skies. Sufferers experience panic attacks, dizziness, and even collapse. In the UK, the flat, marshy terrain known as the Fenlands of East Anglia, remote, rural, sparsely inhabited, and poorly connected, are best avoided by those susceptible to the condition.

It goes against common sense posting long pieces. Honestly, I rarely listen to other people’s longer works, (who has the time?) and SoundCloud denies its ‘amplify’ feature to anything over 10 minutes. This clocks in at fifteen. Hey ho. But I have to go where the noise takes me, and this slowly evolving drone piece seemed to need that much to get its boots on.

Tl:dr: It’s tl:dl. (Too long. Don’t listen!)

Mostly Dark Park, btw. (Thank you, @lewisleval :) )

  • TLDL lol I like the part around 12 minutes in where it goes “shhhhhhwwwossshhhhh”

  • @Edward_Alexander : Ha! I too like the bit where it goes shhhhhhwwwossshhhhh :). And I thank you for your patience, Edward!

  • TL;DL was great! Loved the composition; at moments, it made me think of Angelo Badalamenti's work, but my set of references in drone/ambient music is way too narrow, so I could be wrong. I listened to the first five minutes while my lunch was on the microwave at work and this wooden surface was right in front of me; the combination between the sounds and the texture was somewhat entrancing to me and made me think of the wood slowly melting as I kept listening, so thank you! :)))

  • I skipped through the first chunk, but I immediately loved the tone and texture. And now I'm listening properly to the tonal changes around the 9 to 10 minute mark, very enjoyable. I'll definitely relisten to the whole thing. All kinds of emotions mingling together here - cosmic dread, wonder, melancholy, tranquility. Quite the smorgasbord!

    Listened through again, yes very enjoyable. One thing I didn't like though was the vinyl crackles, especially early on. I didn't feel they added anything, they just made it an otherwise very meditative piece less conducive to bringing me into trance. Really liked the drums and arp at the end though, and I didn't find those distracting.

  • @Rodrigo1709 : Ha! That’s fantastic! The wood grain looks like a drone shot of some kind of crop field. May I have your permission to use it as a/w for a crop circle based piece?

  • @Svetlovska : yes, definitely! I would love to see it once it’s finished! 😊

    @Gavinski : thanks for the listen and the comments Gav. I do sometimes deliberately add vinyl noise to pieces using apps like Needlepoint, but for this one, I think the crackles came from inside the app itself, the noise knob, as a result of the randomly generated voice I used for the piece using the ‘scan’ feature. I kinda liked it, in a slightly Boards Of Canada kind of way, so I left it dialled up. Horses for courses, I guess! :) I’ll take it on advisement next time I use Dark Park. And - drums and arp at the end? None that I was aware of, tbh…

  • I listened to this with my cat.

    Minnie (the cat) purred mightily.

    So did I.🙂

  • Truly an odyssey, this one.

  • I listened to the whole thing! I loved it. Set me up for the day!!!

    That is bizarre, because yeah, flicking towards the end there are none indeed. I was listening very carefully with headphones, there was about a 30 second blast of subtle drums and synth arp, which actually sounded fabulous and really suited it. So either this track actually made me hallucinate, or there must have been some other music playing somewhere which I was hearing in the background haha, no clue, how fittingly mysterious.

    @Gavinski : maybe the particular sequence I used worked as a summoning. If you begin to hear messages in the static, write them down, would you? It will help the investigators determine where the body may be found. Cheers! ;)

    @rottencat : shoutout to Minnie!

    @sevenape : Thanks muchly!

  • An epic vast and bleak landscape conjured up in my living room 🙏

  • @Svetlovska This ambient creation is really awesome! One of a kind.
