Loopy Pro / Rode Hub usb-c Compatibility

Hi everyone, hope well... I'm putting together a Loopy Pro / iPad M3 (2025) system, mainly for Live use, and have had some trouble getting the right hub. Fyi: The system has an iRig Pro Duo for the audio interface, and an iRig Keys Pro for Midi Keys input.

Question: Does anyone know if the (more expensive) Rode Hub usb-c will work with this 👆 system, plus give me Pass-Thru power to the iPad?

Nb. I'll use the Rode's own PSU, iRig Pro Duo connects: 7 pin mini-Din to usb-c, and iRig Keys Pro connects: mini usb to USB-A.

Fyi: The hub I got initially was the (Cheapish) Anker 364. I get pass-thru power to the iPad, but it's NOT working/compatible with the 2 iRig devices, (and possibly not data to the iPad, which has the latest iOS).

Hi. Your Anker hub should work fine with your devices and USB-C iPad. I guess you're connecting your devices to the USB-A ports on the hub. Are the devices powering up correctly when they are connected? Have you tried connecting one device at a time and checking whether they work? Are you connecting the iPad to the USB-C host port on the hub?

Edit: Is your iRig Keys Pro the original or the newer Keys 2? If it is the Keys 2, it includes an audio interface. iPadOS can only accept one audio interface at a time, so you'll need to connect the Keys first, then the Duo, because the last interface connected wins.

How exactly are you making the hub connection?

    What size power supply?

That Anker is not an inexpensive hub. I’d suspect your cables or power supply rather than the hub model..unless it is defective.

Hi, thanks for getting back... Fyi: Yes, I'm using the USB-A ports. and just testing again, with the iRig Pro Duo: It lights up/pwr 'faintly' but in Loopy Pro, the designated channel doesn't show an input option for 'iRig Audio' and defaults to the onboard mics. Nb. I've also tried my (desktop's) hub for the system, which is an older Wavlink 5G - this Does power/data the iRig devices, (but no Pass-Thru Power).

Fyi: (Not setting much stall in this, but): I ran this past Ai a few days ago and, after the usual 'lying/bs' it concluded there was a likely mismatch between the M3, its iOS version, and the Anker hub... 😵‍💫

It'd be great if I didn't hav to fork out for the Rode Hub, but this Anker one just feels unsuitable. Unless it's faulty... Any further thoughts?... 🙏🏻

Ps. Yes, using the correct Usb-c port on the hub... 🙏🏻

  • @bobbykemp : in case it isn’t clear, the question is whether the OS sees your devices. Have you checked in Control Center whether the OS sees it?

Ok, to answer all? Qs: 1. The iRig Keys Pro is the original/older one. 2. I've tried 2 different Apple PSUs - one being my bigger MacBook one, and the other being the smaller 'sprung pins' one, more for iOS devices. Not sure of voltages, but neither work anyway... 3. I'm connecting these PSUs via the (iPad included) usb-c cable into the usb-c host port on the anker. I'm also using the (Anker included) fast usb-c cable to connect from it to the iPad. So all of these cables are new, hi-spec, plus succesfully tested with my WavLink hub in the same system. 🙏🏻

Sorry: 4. I checked in control centre, and no sign of the iRig Pro Duo but, like I said previously, it didn't come up as an input option in Loopy Pro, so I knew it wan't recognised...

  • Are you using a USB-C PSU, like the one that came with your M3? Any older power adapter, with a USB-A port, will not be suitable. I assume you're connecting the PSU to the "PD" port of the side of the hub, not the USB-C host port on the end, which should be your connection to the iPad.

Could you try the hub on your MacBook? That would help determine if it is faulty.

...Yes, trying 2 different Usb-c PSUs - 1 from my MacBook, the other from a recent iPhone. (Nb. the iPad shipping, just with a cable + no PSU). Yes, using the PD port... and Yes, (good idea - I used to be SO much better at fault-finding than this! 🥴): I connected up (same kit) to the MacBook, using its own usb-c PSU and the new cable. The Anker/iRig Pro Duo gave the same result, (ie. not powering up + no sign of it when I launched the basic DAW within Bandlab). Given that the Wavlink hub works on both the MacBook and new iPad, I'm now thinking this points to the Anker 364 maybe being faulty? So, in more detail: The Pass-thru/usb-c connections could be fine, and (all 3 of) the usb-A ones could be non-functional? Any thoughts (appreciated). Tia, Bob 🙏🏻

EDIT: Fyi: I just tried: Anker into MacBook, with usb-c cabling for Pass-Thru power, and just an old iPhone charging cable in one of the Usb-A ports. PT pwr working, but Absol. Nothing into the iPhone!! I'm thinking it must be the usb-A ports dodgy on the Anker... Anyone agree? 🥴 😁. 🙏🏻
