Mine too. I'm so fucking happy, because I've recently started getting back into BoC. ❤️

  • Finally something new from them! Lovely!

Absolutely! I can't wait to listen to this on repeat once back home later, learn a thing or two about Ambient from this piece of music.

  • Not winning any prizes for best Boards of Canada track, but yeah, keen to see if they're gonna drop a new album!

I hope they will. While we're discussing BoC, drop a title of one of your fave pieces by them. :)

  • Their music really takes me to another place!

Ooh, there are quite a few. Probably not my favorite but Beautiful Place Out in the Country was the first thing sprung to mind.

At the risk of being called pretentious it’s probably this one!!!!

  • I remember buying Geogaddi, when it came out in the early noughties and introducing my friends into it. Good times.

Still their most dense album for me. MHTRTC is an all killer no filler for sure, but Geogaddi just works really well as an album for me.

Lotsa good EPs, too: Hi Scores, In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country and Trans Canada Highway are great

  • the new stuff seems to me more like Tomorrow's Harvest, which I haven't really gotten into. But I heard the kids like it a lot

  • Music Has the Right to Children is the masterpiece album I think, Geogaddi also had moments of brilliance, but BoC have been slowly going downhill since, I reckon.

I remember the first time I listened to MHTRTC -it was a summer afternoon, and I was packing up my apartment, getting ready to leave Poland, where I’d been living for a few years. The Polish girl I’d been dating for about half a year was sleeping as I packed, somehow not woken up by the BoC which I was blasting pretty loud 🤣. I listened to that album as I packed, and I remember at the time realising a few tracks into it that this was probably going to be one of the most profound audio experiences of my life. It did not disappoint!

To each their own… but so far I’m loving this track. I’m a longtime BoC fan, but every one of their releases has required a period of varying degrees before I fully appreciated it.

However, this new track is perfectly inline with where my own personal taste has been leading and I’m subsequently even more excited about a new album! :)

Happy for ya! Don’t get me wrong, I liked the new track well enough, but it just doesn’t grab me like some of the other stuff, who knows, maybe with more listens it will.

Haha, I also thought this was Jim’s track initially when I saw the title and that he was the poster.

  • @Pierre118 @Gavinski My goodness, I wish my music was this good! 🤩 If I could nail this level of musicality, I'll be super chuffed.

I think it grabbed me quicker because my tastes have been gravitating more towards more electronic, melodic but ambient technical math compositions... and less towards what could be considered songs. I'm not being dismissive of your first impression... this is why I mentioned that I personally have always needed time for new BoC to gel with me in the past.

I think because I've been getting more into Rival Consoles, Oneohtrix, older Daniel Avery, Four Tet, Blawan, Foating Points, and BoC for that matter... this first track is hitting for me right out of the gate.

Meanwhile, completely off-topic, but Rick Beato once again is bitching about the Spotify Top 10 in his latest video. I'm thinking to myself, "Bro, chill the fuck out, man. 😂 There's better shit out there on Soundcloud and Youtube." Some people just like to complain though.

Edit - Think I just passed the 10-times mark of how many times I listened to "Tape 05". 😂 It's pure Ambient gold.

True! As much as I like his interviews, bashing music that's not his thing is as useless as it gets. Like trying to explain people why their personal taste must be changed.

Agreed, this track and the one from '78 😊

I know you're one of the Gadget power users around here (if I recall correctly). I plan to make more attempts at Boards of Canada music in Gadget and master it with a tape effect, bark filter, and Cubasis' Brickwall. Making sure to use Youlean's Loudness Meter to get my levels where I want them. ❤️

And the recent versions have better effects now.

    Facts!

+1 Music Has the Right to Children is epic from beginning to end. Impossible to pick one track in particular. Geogaddi has also a special place in my heart as it is the first one I heard from them and is full of great moment.
