Other Desert Cities now on iPhone!

The good news: Other Desert Cities is now available for iPhone!

The not-so-good news: I already own it on iPad, but I can’t simply download from the App Store to my phone, as you normally would with a universal app. They’re charging me $6.99.

Anyone know anything about this? Is anyone else seeing this too?

@ninobeatz posted on Bluesky this morning that AD has updated the app. I don’t have my iPad on me right now so I can’t see if I can simply update it or if there’s a upcharge there too.

    I can confirm that you can install the app without having to pay again.

    Thanks, @Hel. You’re correct. Not sure why the App Store presented it that way instead of with the download cloud, but there was no charge.

    That's a longstanding AppStore bug, don't understand why Apple have never fixed it. Either way, definitely not Audio Damage's fault in any way, devs must surely also hate that Apple have never fixed this.

    Yes, as long as you have already for sure bought it, with the same account. Or, the less nervewracking option:

    Go to Apps / Apps & Purchase History / Your Apps, search for Other Desert Cities, download it.

    Interesting. They had replicant 3 on beta for iphone and ipad, i wonder if that one might get the iphone update too?

    You could search you app history in the App Store and see if it shows up there too…

    The controls for the LFOs are cut off in the standalone version on my phone. No big deal, though, as I don’t know when I’d ever use it in standalone anyway. Displays perfectly in AUM and Loopy Pro. Thank you, Audio Damage!!!

    On Reddit, someone just claims they got charged after going through the buying process described above, even though they claim they already own the app. I wonder is it possible you bought the app, refunded it an d forgot to uninstall? In that case, you would be charged again. Most people report that the process works for them. I dunno what to say, I can’t believe Apple have never fixed this, it’s a disgrace.

    I’ve never had it refunded. :( Oh well. Perhaps the iPhone option’s just not for me.

    Mine did not come up when i searched my account history in the App Store.

    However

    When i searched it regularly in the app store it came up with the download symbol, like any purchased app not on the device.

    By the time I pulled the trigger I had made up my mind that if I got charged, then so be it. Searching my AppStore history, I realized I’d bought it on sale for only $2 back in ‘24, and it’s one of my most-used apps.

    So of course I celebrated “saving” $7 today by spending even more than that on more apps. This time completing the Weirdly Named MIDI plugins bundle and preordering Retro Keys.

    sigh 🤷🏻‍♂️

    There is a MOD toggle at the top of the screen that moves the modulation controls up and down. It’s not super obvious, given the way the controls are cut off on small screens.

    It's after you confirm the purchase, which is what makes the bug so annoying
