Airdrop - how do you get the file to land in the app of your choice?
I remember with older operating systems you got a list appearing on the receiving iPad and you simply tapped the one you wanted and in it went. Now it seems to be picking any app it feels like - in my case Koala - with no options to pick. But I don’t want Koala populated with these wav files - I want them as it happens to land in AudioShare. Can you set a default app? Or what are the options?

Which app are you in when you send the file via AirDrop?
I'm pretty sure that has no influence at all.
I think Apple just decided we're too dumb to deal with all that picking and choosing, so they applied their usual "We know best. We're Apple." condescension.
@robosardine - I don't see any way to choose directly what happens with the file. What seemed to work for me was to find a file of that type in the files app, long-press and select Share, then scroll all the way to the right in the list of apps it shows so that you can tap ... (More). Then tap Edit and remove all the apps under "Favorites" in the top section.
For me at least, that resulted in the file opening in the preview window of the files app, and from there I could share it to the app of my choosing.
@wim Apple actually says that it will be more than likely associated with the app that sends the file.

“ For most apps, go to the app the AirDrop was sent from to find the shared content. For example, if someone sent you a photo, go to your Photos app to see it. App links open in the App Store, so you can download or purchase the app.”
Having said that…that is a nice work around you have there.
fwiw: When I share a wav file to my iPhone I usually get a selection of apps to open it with. One being files, another being Documents.
one thing that happens to me too often is that mp3 files shared to another phone I have running iOS18 always land in iCloud Downloads on that phone only. So, yes it’s a bit of a grey world.
That's just saying that in "most cases" (to Apple) file extensions do identify the app they're used by, and the assumption is it's likely the same app will have that association on the other device. They don't take into account that "wav" files can be used in dozens of different apps for people like us.
Nothing about the source app that sent the file is sent with the actual air drop. It's all working based on the file extension.
I'm guessing that you don't have any "Favorites" marked in the share sheet that have wav files associated with them. It seems like if there's an app Favorited and that app can open the AirDropped file type, it opens it. Thanks Apple.
The reason I think this is when I was experimenting, was just getting wav files opening in the files app previewer. Then I favorited Koala ... and viola! ... airdropped wavs opened in Koala. That led me to removing all the favorited apps.
Thanks folks. I’ll try your method @wim
@Mountain_Hamlet I was in AudioShare wanting to send it to AudioShare…. but I was also looking to be able to send it to a variety of apps in the future.
