Greetings LPF! Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't done much with music for a while. Not by choice, but that's another story. I played this for my wife before it had a title. She rolled her eyes and said... that's really way out!

I’m glad you picked up on the “arrangement”. I did my best to hide it! It was all laid out before a single note was played. The instruments are like plug-ins that I added after the fact. The end result was sort of a surprise to me.

I have learned one thing. Whenever you visit a doctor these days, they will ALWAYS find something. I started on Medicare recently. The “government” picks up the majority, but these copays are death by a thousand cuts.

This is cool. Some bits remind me of Crimson's more atonal stuff. Aw sh*t. That transition around 2:40 where you go from darkness to the light sax solo was great. Nice one and glad to hear the second opinion was better news.

Hi Tony! I’m actually feeling pretty good. It’s nice to be posting again, although this one is a bit freaky. I think I like freaky. Maybe that will be my new direction. Hope your weather is as nice as it is here today. Low 80s and a little bit cloudy. The lawn crew just finished cutting the grass and it smells wonderful. I’ll be heading outside to the patio and my comfy chair soon. Peace!
Ah… 2:40. That’s my favorite bit. Glad you noticed it. Although it’s probably been done before, it’s new to me. I took a crash cymbal and lined it up with the first measure of the cheesy, lounge band. Then I copied and reversed it and lined it up with the end of the previous chaos. I put a punchy kick drum on the first beat of the lounge band, and the end result sounds like a door slamming shut. It’s a simple little trick to merge two radically different ideas. I’ll probably use it again.

Thank you, Fernando. That’s a cool name! When I was born, my Icelandic grandparents wanted to name me Finnur or Magnus. Mom said No. My grandfather was Pall, and they Americanized it to Paul and here I am. Although Magnus might have been cool.
Piano Motifs played a big part in this one. I used Ravenscroft and Pure Piano. I played them together using the MIDI from PM. Ravenscroft has a good attack, and the Cinematic sound from Pure Piano was the decay. I also used Fugue Machine. They seem to play nice together. Have a peaceful and productive day!

Thank you! The trumpet is from an old app called Session Band. It’s actually a live trumpet player, although he probably never imagined anything like this. I output a bunch of tiny little pieces, then arranged them until they sounded just weird enough. I was imagining Lester Bowie in his white lab coat, spinning around like a human Leslie speaker. I’m glad I was able to see him once at the Jazz Showcase, playing with Jack Dejohnette, John Abercrombie, and Eddie Gomez. What a great show! The sax is also from Session Band, and I just did the same thing. Hope you’re having a nice day!

@MadeofWax Thanks Mac! I like the mad scientist comparison. You should see my hair! Fortunately, my honey bunny still loves me regardless of my appearance. I feel the same way about her. We still like to do things together. Tomorrow we are going to see the Robie House in Chicago. Next month we are going to visit Taliesen in Wisconsin. I am a huge fan of Frank Lloyd Wright. Dad designed the house we grew up in, and he borrowed several Prairie Style elements and introduced me to his work. After he retired, we talked about building a Usonian style house for me and what’s her name. Fortunately, that marriage ended before we got started.
Hope your weather is as nice as here. I’m sitting outside in my comfy chair, poking away at my little iPad, working on a concoction. I like that word. It describes what I’m doing lately.
