No access to midiDREAMs?

Hi,

midiDREAMs looks like the perfect sequencer-app for me.

I just tried very intense to purchase this App in the App Store for my iPad, but had no success.

I can't find it in the App Store, and when I try to use the link from this site
http://artkerns.com/mididreams.html
I receive an error-message.

I even tried different country-settings on my iPad, but nothing worked.

I don't understand what's going on.

Is that App gone? Is there a replacement? Can someone help?

Not available in the EU any more, sadly.

  • Different country settings on your iPad won't fix that btw. You need to have an AppStore account in a non EU country, which would also mean you'd need an address in said country, and probably a bank account too.

  • Oh, that is really sad!

Why is that? What is the purpose of such limitations for a musicians App?? Hard to believe.

Does anyone know about a similar sequencer App? With, for example, such direct and easy access to ratches for a single step.

Many devs choose not to have their apps on the EU AppStore now. It's very sad. There is a reason for it. it's a complex issue so try not to be too hard on devs who choose this path. I personally don't think it's important devs make the needed effort to appear on EU AppStores, but devs' mileages seem to vary on that point.

    Tldr:

Under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), developers distributing apps in the European Union must provide and publicly display a verified physical address, phone number, and email address on their App Store product page. Apple requires this information for all "traders" to ensure transparency and compliance.

    More info and ranting:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/1et36d8/developers_must_share_phone_number_and_address_on/

  • They can also just not identify as traders and still have their apps up. At least, that is what some devs seem to do.

The only thing I can recommend is 4 Pockets' MidiStep. It's not as immediate as MidiDreams, and is kind of weird in some areas, but it's easier for me to work with than, say, Woodpecker.

I'm sure someone will say "use Drambo." It's a mantra here.

This really blows goats, though. The EU and the US, in close collaboration with Huge Damn Tech, are putting the screws hard on everyone, particularly in any area having to do with identity management.

I'd never thought of using StepPolyArp as a main sequencer, and you're right. It's not too bad. It has a couple of things I miss from MidiDreams, but I think I'm going to use it more and see if it fits my head.
