Environments - Acoustic Spaces by AudioThing Ltd. (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6761718980
Environments is an interactive reverb that lets you explore and play real-world acoustic spaces. Built from unique locations and enhanced with expressive modulation and gesture-based resonances, it turns sound into a living experience. Shape, move, and transform your audio through evolving environments that go far beyond conventional reverb.
Details:
Universal: Yes
Minimum OS version: 14.0

The description sounds a bit like Klevgrand Revolv and they're equally sizes. BUT this one has some morph and modulation which are completely omitted in the description. Well, gotta try I guess as Revolv is the best.
Edit: Ha! there's even location descriptions, exactly like Revolv.
Edit2: Despite their similarities Environments are a very different beast with quite unique addition to the signal like: gestures (drone? grain?) and movement (lfo). If you think: "another reverb - boring!" think again. It's a bit dominant and loud but that can most likely be fixed with some tweaking. Nice!
Excited to hear it
Is it correct that there are three locations in total?
Edit: according to the manual yes. Bit underwhelming tbh.
Basically packaged IRs, not as excited for this one.
There's different captures on some (maybe all) but I don't think anyone will be underwhelmed by this. Reason 14 just released came with a reverb as the only addition (plugin/instrument wise) but it's one hell of a reverb. This is not that (nothing is) but I came to think of it.
Damn I want this . Gotta wait a month or two though sadly .
Hey guys, glad you like it!
Just to reply to a few comments. Yes, at the moment there are 3 locations (with two positions each), and we plan to add more, as we usually do with our plugins. These are not just common spaces though, and Environments is not simply packaged IRs.
The idea was to focus on a few unique acoustic spaces, capture them properly, and then make them playable with the Room section, modulation, and the Gestures layer. We wanted to share with users the same sense of sonic exploration we had while working in those places, and let them experience these spaces not just as reverbs, but as living acoustic environments.
Recording there took quite a bit of permission from local councils and authorities, so it was not something we could just walk in and do. Two of the locations are easy to visit though, and if you are ever passing by Naples, I really recommend the Temple of Mercury, it is incredible in person.
Anyway, we see Environments more as a set of acoustic spaces turned into instruments, rather than a big folder of reverbs.
hi @audiothing
The app is amazing, and I love the modulation! Definitely use it more as a special FX than a standard reverb.
Could you explain a little bit on what the Gesture layer do? I can make it do very interesting things, but is it not clear to me from neither the webpage or the manual, what actually is happening. Are these additional IRs mixed with the room IRs? Or actual recordings added? Or something entirely else?
(Whatever it is, it can sound great, but it can sometime also sound like another unrelated sound on top of your own sound. I haven't really found the logic yet, but am very intrigued.)
IMO this is a pretty unique reverb, and can get very weird and eerie. The gestures parameter adds a second layer of convolution that creates strange resonances.
Here is a very short demo going through some parameters and then a handful of presets:
@audiothing, is this an intro offer or the regular price? Thanks.
Edit. Also, is it (going to be) possible to import user impulse responses? I’m guessing they wouldn’t be able to be used in all the fancy ways the built in multiple IRs can but could still be useful to use it as a ‘regular’ convolution reverb with user IRs.
The original idea came from Salvatore Carannante, who I worked with on this plugin. He builds custom electroacoustic instruments, often from spare parts, everyday objects, speakers, microphones, springs, pipes, feedback systems, and so on.
The idea was to play these instruments inside these spaces, so the sound became an interaction between the instrument and the environment itself. With such long reverbs, the space almost becomes part of the instrument.
To recreate that feeling in the plugin, we decided to add another convolution layer before the Environment. Depending on your input source, these gestures can react in different ways. Sometimes they resonate at specific frequencies, almost like the object is responding to your sound. Other times it can feel like the sound of the gesture is being “impressed” onto your source. After that, everything is processed again by the selected Environment.

Thank you! Eerie is indeed a good way to describe this
Yes, the iOS intro price is $9.99, and it goes up to $19.99 on June 30th.
Unfortunately, on iOS you can't add your own (yet). On desktop you can potentially just copy your samples in the samples folder. If this is something people would like, we can try to add proper support for it in the next update.
Thanks for the explanation! Great idea (and project) and exactly the kind of originality I love your apps for.
Thanks for confirming @audiothing. I’m still deciding whether to buy Environments or not. Now that I know custom IRs could be used in theory, I’m kinda put off buying it unless support for them is added! So, take that as one vote for support being added in the next update. Cheers.
