Help with ideas for shared metronome
Hi,
I'd like to have a drummer get a visual and audio metronome in sync with my Loopy Pro transport, I'm wondering if others are doing this and what you've found is easiest to set up.
I was looking at Tick metronome or similar, running that as AUv3 in Loopy with Ableton Link setup in Tick and wondering if others are doing this and/or have any other specific thoughts on how to approach this in a way that minimizes what the drummer has to have running on their iPhone.
Thanks

I don't see how it could be any simpler than with Tick. It has Link and can run in standalone - so nothing else whatever needed for the drummer to run.
WiFi at a gig though? Eh. I'd never do that in a million years.
I think I'd run an ethernet cable between the devices. But then you need to deal with Ethernet dongles and the chance of tripping over cables, knocking the dongle out, etc.
A private WiFi router might be OK, I suppose.
Thanks @wim, this is just for a basement practice setup. Also, I tried with Tick just now with one instance of Tick running as AUv3 in Loopy, one standalone on my iPhone, both with Link enabled. They recognized each other based on the visual info I can see in each Tick instance, but when I hit Play on LP transport, the iPhone Tick instance didn't react...Would I also need to double check that Loopy Pro has Ableton Link enabled...Maybe that's why the iPhone Tick instance didn't react...that might have been my issue, perhaps I need to retest with Ableton Link enabled also in Loopy when I get back in front of all the devices and able to test again soon
Why not using midi in Loopy to program a count with sounds of you choice?
For those following along, need to have Ableton Link turned on in Loopy Pro settings to enable this approach to work.
@ecou, drummer doesn't have Loopy Pro on his iPhone, are you suggesting something that would work given this constraint?
Thanks very much
Good luck. I have a feeling this will always be finicky. I would stick to a audio output.
@ecou - I see no reason why it would be finicky. Link works rock steady over any reasonable network. The original problem was purely one of configuration.
I'd be worrisome in a live venue, but just for basement practice I'd be very surprised if it didn't work well.
