Woolgathering
Refers to idle daydreaming, absent-mindedness, or indulging in aimless fancy and wandering thoughts…
In the past it literally referred to the act of gathering loose tufts of wool that had gotten caught on bushes and fences as sheep passed by.
At the moment this is something the birds are doing to gather material for their nests 🪺
In a month or so the farmer next door will be doing it on a larger scale 🐑
Programmed chord sequences in 3 * ChordBuds playing Decents Samplers.
Programmed melodies in 3 * MelodyBuds playing ThumbJam Cellos.
GeoShred playing SWAM Alto Saxophone.

My oh my this is lovely.
I can almost smell the lanolin.🙂
Just absolutely sublime! ❤️
I’ve changed the track art to a photo I took a couple of weeks ago, especially for ewe @rottencat 😊
Very much appreciated @jwmmakerofmusic 🙏
This is lovely music to daydream to @GeoTony . That photo.. where do you live? i forget.
@rottencat , what is lanolin? I don’t care what google says it is. I’d like to hear it from you if you don’t mind. Also, it sounds like it means something to you too, being that you’re familiar with the smell.
When I was a kid, I would go every year to the New York State Fair. There was a petting zoo there that had, among other animals, sheep. After petting the sheep my hands would be waxy. My mother told me that this was lanolin, a natural secretion of sheep and that it was used in handcreams.
It may just be my imagination but I seem to remember that it had a musky, slightly fetid redolence.
Thanks @Blipsford_Baubie … I live in Saddleworth, a set of villages on the Pennines about 13 miles from Manchester in the UK.
We are very lucky, living next to a farm that has sheep and a few cows, fields all around.
Saddleworth is famous for two, possibly three things…
1 Infamous murders in the 1960’s when the bodies were buried on the moors around Saddleworth.
2 An international brass band contest where the bands walk through the villages and get awarded prizes. It’s actually next Friday.
3 The Wrigleys chewing gum empire which started with Edward Wrigley from Saddleworth emigrating to America in 1827.
Re 2, this is last years contest in our local village
Hats off for asking for the human answer rather than the Google answer @Blipsford_Baubie, we need more of this, and lovely evocative answer, thanks @rottencat
This is a memory from about 60 years ago. It feels like a gift to be asked about it. Equally, it feels like a blessing to be able to recall it.
So, thanks @Blipsford_Baubie.
And thanks @Gavinski.
🙂
Fuck yeah! @Gavinski!
Thanks to you too @rottencat for sharing that wonderful story. That’s such a cool thing to know about sheep.
More fun facts from @GeoTony . Except for the murders, i doubt that was fun. I didn’t listen to the entire 1 hour 8 minutes of the brass contest lol, but i heard a sizable portion while responding and chatting with my wife. It is evident the best of the best are there. We enjoy watching the Mummer’s Day Parade every year in Phili (on TV). A good number of “string bands” that play brass arrangements of songs.
Appreciate the comments @Blipsford_Baubie .
The contest actually lasts for about 6 hours, the bands walk through each of the 11 local villages and get prizes at each one + and overall prize. Some of the musicians are world class.
If you watch the film Brassed Off some of the scenes are from the contest.
Somehow I find myself in the Lake District when I listen to Woolgathering. Tony, what a song to start my day with. Thank you, frenq
