My first iPad composition

Back in 2021, my wife suggested that I try writing music on an iPad. I was skeptical at first, but I gave it a try. This is the first thing I posted after deciding that I liked making music this way. In the spirit of Memorial Day, I revived and remixed it a bit.

Beautiful piece! Nice, chill and relaxing vibe. I like it!

  • This was great, Paul! :) I really enjoyed it.

  • Cool! The seeds of what's to come are already evident in your very first iPad piece. How was it made?

I'm going to guess Cubasis was somewhere in the workflow. Paulie is a genius when it comes to using Cubasis.

  • I dig the floaty, ambient feel. Cool transition at :46. Aw man, nice groove coming in at 1:00. A lot of interesting twists & turns. Enjoyed it.

Your wife was right with her suggestion, if this is your first composition on iPad then we are all in for a treat with your next compositions.
Is @jwmmakerofmusic right, are you using Cubasis 3 (the best DAW IMO)

  • Loved this composition. At first, it sounded cinematic, as the score for an action thriller...and then it changed. Had it stayed the same way thoughout the whole track, I would have really liked it, but the seamless combination of different things made the end result feel deeper to me. Loved it. :)

Thank you, Ed! We are sitting outside chilling to this beautiful weather. Normally, we would be chilling and grilling, but the association put the kibosh on grills. At least we can still fly our flag!

Thanks, Jim. This one is a bit melodramatic, but who doesn’t like a bit of drama now and then. Hope you are enjoying the day off and this beautiful weather. Peace!

Hey bro. I wish I could describe the workflow, but I just make it up as I go, and never use the track Notepad. I keep telling myself, this time I will take notes. I can say that there was probably some vodka involved. That explains a lot. I am pleased to say that I’ve stopped that stuff, and I’m feeling a lot better these days. Have a great day!

Thank you! I remember when I first started this stuff. It took a month or two, but I eventually came up with a workflow that seemed to work for me. I was really nervous when I posted it. Fortunately, I was in a good place on this forum. I made some new friends, albeit virtual. I have always thought it would be fun for a bunch of us to meet in Nashville some day. First round is on me. I’ve stopped indulging, so mine will be a Coke. Have a good one!

Thanks, Mike! I use Cubasis 2. I have version 3, but it doesn’t work well with my quirky workflow. I tend to jump around between apps and it crackles a lot. Unfortunately, those crackles end up in the recording and render it useless. It actually worked pretty well until iOS updated one day, then… no mas. If anyone here has had that issue and figured it out, please tell me the solution. Other than that, I agree that Cubasis is great. I probably only use a fraction of its capabilities, but it works great for me. Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you, Rodrigo! I have a rather short attention span and tend to put breaks in even if they’re not really necessary. That’s just me. Fortunately, everybody is different, and there is always room for more music. Have a great day!

I'm definitely enjoying this day off. At the Brewers v Cardinals game with friends. ❤️

This crackling issue in Cubasis 3 sounds like something to let @LFS know about. :)

Anyways, the game was great, mate. Brewers defeated the Cardinals 5-1. Look at our pitcher, the Miz, winding up to strike out another hapless St Louis Cardinal. 😂

Strike 'em out, Miz, strike 'em out!

  • @jwmmakerofmusic What a great way to spend a weekend. I haven’t been to a game in about… 35 years. I had to stop and think about it. We went to see the Sox at the new (at the time) field. We were up in the nosebleed section. I don’t like heights and the steps are almost vertical. Scared the crap out of me!

Yeah, we were in the nosebleeds too, but that's where all the fun is to be honest is in the 400 level. 200 level is way too expensive, and the 300 level is where all the pretentious snobs go to pretend to be baseball fans for a day. 😂
