RetroLab - Vintage FX by 4 Pockets Audio (Released)

https://apps.apple.com/bh/app/retrolab-vintage-fx/id6762256659
RetroLab is an AUv3 vintage effects processor that blends the character of classic hardware with the flexibility of modern sound design. Inspired by gramophones, tape decks, and worn analog circuits, RetroLab lets you recreate the warmth, instability, and imperfections of vintage recording-then push them far beyond what was ever possible.
From subtle coloration to full sonic destruction, RetroLab is built for experimentation. Shape your sound with a collection of creative modules designed to add movement, texture, and character to any source. Whether you're adding gentle tape warmth or diving into chaotic modulation, RetroLab gives you complete control over your signal-turning clean audio into something alive, imperfect, and uniquely yours.
Modules include:
•NOISE: Adds authentic analog-style noise, from subtle hiss and hum to heavy vinyl crackle, bringing realism and depth to your signal.
•GLITCH: Introduces rhythmic interruptions, stutters, and digital instability for unpredictable, broken textures.
•WOW & FLUTTER: Emulates the pitch instability of aging tape machines, adding movement, drift, and organic modulation.
•PHASER: A classic modulation effect that adds sweeping, phase-shifted motion-from subtle shimmer to deep, swirling tones.
•DISTORT (Overdrive / Distortion): From gentle saturation to aggressive distortion, add harmonic richness and grit to your sound.
•TAPE TRANSPORT: Simulates the mechanical behavior of tape systems-speed changes, slow-downs, dropouts, and transport-style artifacts

Stunning beautiful work and a UI refresh approach i feel? Looking more modern - i like it
The UI on these 4Pockets apps has improved a lot over the last few years, yes! Also the whole UX (at least, I loved the PolyPipe UX, have not tried this new app). Great work, good to see it.
So cool. Can’t wait to hear more!! Really enjoyed seeing all the dials automated. Exciting stuff
I feel like I could waste so much time having fun with this.
Is it fair to say it’s a bit like an update of the 4Pockets Flux multi FX but without the sequencer?
Damn it! I couldn't make it through the first couple minutes of the video before hitting "purchase". 😂 That "glitch" section alone is worth the price for me personally! This will come quite in handy for Ambient fodder in the future, especially with Drone Day coming up on Saturday, 30 May this year.
Sadly it’s the rent paycheck for me so gotta wait for a bit . This would be an instabuy otherwise!
Since 4pockets doesn't post their manuals online, maybe someone who has this could export the pdf manual inside the app, zip it and share it here? Many people like a look at the manual before buying something 🙏
^^ yes, please.
Sir Doug has a demo out.

I’m just off to get a cup of tea before listening to both of them. Should be right up my street.
You might get lucky and find it cheaper on-sale in a few weeks. 😅
At least that’s how 4 pockets releases have gone down in the past.
Me: oh wow, this thing could replace so many different fx apps
Also me: but you already like and use the ones you have, why replace them
Also also me: shut up Allie you don’t know anything about anything
Sigh. I’m gonna need to watch some videos of this thing.
One thing I often flip flop between or get indecisive about is whether to use multi effects or dedicated. I prefer dedicated, but I think I work better with multi effects. I work quicker and I think I'm less inclined to overdo it. With dedicated plugins it's easy for things to suddenly get too much. I'm trying to think what this could replace. Are there plugins that operate in similar sonic territory?
Some videos above to check out, mate.
Reelbus cobers5a fair bit of this ground, not all; without the inbuilt modulation, but you can use external lfos if you don't mind setting them up.
Wasn’t planning on purchasing a random app. Been using self control for like a year now but I’m buying now. Sounds killer.
Bought this on todays sale and: stand-alone can't open and it crashes AUM with a bang (turns the iPad into rest mode). I could open it in Cubasis. Weird behaviour.
I think the sale has ended already.
My mistake
4Pockets
RetroLab - Vintage FX is showing $7.99 if you search for the developer in the App Store directly, and tap on all 4pockets apps. But not when you go to the app page. Purchase from the developer page if looking to buy this on sale. See pictures.

Wow, I thought the Riffler sales were short!
Yeah very telling that the top App Store reviews are from people saying they couldn’t use it because it kept crashing. Disappointing because it looks like this thing has solid potential to be a one-stop shop.
Yeah, I really want to score it despite the vintage element being a turn off. I’m kinda worn out on the tape/noise effects. I was kinda bummed to see the negative reviews, not that I believe them to be accurate.
Well, I never seen an app crash so badly it turns the iPad black and you have to login again. Does it work for you in stand-alone and/or AUM? I have reported it to Paul, see where it goes from there. I didn't see any reviews nor did I write one.
Damn, that’s pretty wild. I don’t own it. Did it start crashing after an update or has it been bunk from the jump?
I just got it
I couldn’t decide if this is meant to be a retro FX app or a general multi-effect app. Feels like it has a bit of an identity crisis perhaps? LO-FI-AF and Reelbus already do the lo-fi end of things really well for example. These days I’m much more likely to buy apps which are focused and have a clear sense of what they are for. Hope it does well though.
I got it upon first release. Seems it causes some show-stopping crashes. 😬 Now I'm hesitant to use it. 🫣
I just got a reply from Paul and he doesn't seem to be onboard with this being a troublesome app but asked about my setup instead. Well, that's pretty common, albeit annoying, when reporting bugs. Hopefully he gets on with it, now that he know what iOS (26.5) and iPad (M1) I use (I forgot to mention that for once). He suggesting change buffer size in AUM as that would do that total black out I'm experiencing. A bit disappointed with the reply, I have to admit.
He also say's it is a sale ongoing and there's been(?) something wrong with Apple Store. (!)
Could you who have the latest version of the app run it in AUM, please.
Was trying to buy it in the sale Apple wouldn’t let me maybe it got pulled to fix the crashing don’t think our bother now.
I don't think so, he tells me it got good reviews all using AUM (including him)
These reviews are not what I call good though.
