I got it upon first release. Seems it causes some show-stopping crashes. 😬 Now I'm hesitant to use it. 🫣

I just got a reply from Paul and he doesn't seem to be onboard with this being a troublesome app but asked about my setup instead. Well, that's pretty common, albeit annoying, when reporting bugs. Hopefully he gets on with it, now that he know what iOS (26.5) and iPad (M1) I use (I forgot to mention that for once). He suggesting change buffer size in AUM as that would do that total black out I'm experiencing. A bit disappointed with the reply, I have to admit.

He also say's it is a sale ongoing and there's been(?) something wrong with Apple Store. (!)

Could you who have the latest version of the app run it in AUM, please.

See , fixing the buffer size wouldn’t help me as you can’t do that in GarageBand! Also I have an A16, and if you’re having trouble with M1, I can’t even fathom how bad it’d be for me!

I passed on it , sale or not, and picked up VAPolyFMWest instead and it’s been pretty great in the hour I’ve had it so far .

I was saying that you have a more powerful iPad than mine, so it’s pretty much guaranteed not to work on mine

Wait…was that in response to VAPolyFMWest? Yup that really did come out a month after I made a joke that one would be released a few days before the sale would end lol

  • Don't know what is wrong for the others, but fwiw the app works for me (iPad Pro M1 with iPadOS 26.5). Tested standalone and in AUM.

  • Not available on App Store in US, just now tried to get…

  • Per Facebook he’s pulled it from sale while he’s fixing it

  • edited May 26

Paul has pulled the sale and I have made the sale video unlisted until this gets sorted out.
The wild price fluctuations are an Apple issue, so hopefully that will get sorted too.
But Paul will try and fix any bugs he can find, he just told he spending today with it.

As far as I’m concerned, I have never ever had one single crash or any strangeness with RetroLab.

Once Paul puts it back in the Appstore I'll try it. :) (I uninstalled it from my iPad as I didn't want to risk it blacking out. 🫣 )

  • I saw this coming and stopped buying his apps apps-ago. He’s great at what he does, but I’m referring to over-extending himself. How can one person release so many deep apps at his frequency and upkeep them all?

  • Ok, guys...

First off the issues with the App Store are down to some issues with the App Store itself and not anything to do with me. I too was seeing inconsistent prices even though I put the app on offer from 25th - 29th May.

As for the crashing issues. I've had quite a few people testing this app and a lot of people who have posted reviews of the app, all without issues. However, I can see a couple of people so far are having crashes, and I'm not currently sure if this is an iOS26.5 bug or not.

I've tested on 4 iPad's so far and several versions of iOS, all of which have been fine, both in standalone mode and in AUM. I create all my apps and test using AUM, as do most of my BETA testers. Right now I'm waiting for pixelhog or anyone to post a crash log, as there are none posted in the last 2 weeks. So, I think if this app was 'problamatic' I would have at least one valid crash log from someone.

I'm happy to place anyone with issues on my TestFlight to get to the bottom of this issue.

I have temporarily removed the app from the store to ensure nobody else purchases the app at this moment in time, even though I only know of 2 people with issues, and that could be due to anything. I've never had a situation where an app simply can't be opened, thats kind of crazy to me.

I will post an update once I'm sure there is nothing serious wrong with the app.

I keep most of my newer apps updated regularly, and try to fix issues as soon as I can. It is rare that something like this happens, and to be honest I'm still not sure if it's me or iOS26.5 that is causing the problem that 2-3 users have reported.

Yes, I'm playing safe, but I'm still not sure if this is a bug in my RetroLab or an iOS issue at the minute.

When it's up again I'd like to purchase - does it load as an FX in Ableton Live? It was listed as Mac compatible, but I notice not all apps will work in Live.

Have you experienced slow downs yourself? I've optimised those original modules to death so they shouldn't consume much CPU at all.

Hi friend. I'll have to test it in a bit. I'll probably test it in Koala Sampler. Saw you added a shimmer reverb to the mix, so I'm definitely curious to try it. :)

I've sent you information on how to enable crash log reporting in email today, and added you to a TestFlight which should go live once Apple approves it so keep an eye out for that. Once I get a valid crash log from someone, I can quickly find out if its RetroLab at fault or an iOS issue.

  • Okay @4Pockets_Support , I had a play with RetroLab in Koala Sampler, and no crashes! On iOS 26.2 with an M3 iPad Air.

I got it to work in Koala too, pretty slow to show the UI but, it works.

Yes, I think the AUv3 plugin support in Koala is a new addition and probably needs a bit of optimising as its fine in other DAWs Doug released a video the other night using RetroLab as a plugin in Koala too, no issues there.

I don't know for sure as Apple tends to tick the compatability and then once I've tested in Logic and know it's working I tick the verified option. It should work in Logic although I've not verified it yet, but it does pass verification.

Ah ok, cheers, don't use Logic much, mostly Ableton which can be on the fussy side. I can test it if you like?

Ok, it seems we have at least 4 people with this crashing issue. It seems for most people it works just fine, but for these few people it is crashing inside of AUM (but works in Cubasis and Logic!!). The one thing all of these have in common is that they are running iOS26.5. I'm not pointing my finger at AUM as it's being so reliable over the years and I developed this app in AUM, but I have contacted Jonatan this morning to see if he's had any issues.

I have upgraded most of my iPads to iOS26.5 and not seeing the issues myself, when it works it works, but something strange is going on as I'm not getting any crash logs to suggest the crash is inside RetroLab. Instead customers have sent me logs suggesting that this could be OS related and possibly have something to do with SpotLight Search.

It will be interesting to hear from those with crashing problems which versions of iOS you are having issues with and the model of device you are using? Also what versions of AUM are you using.

NOTE: I know the App Store was screwed up at the weekend reporting the wrong price of RetroLab during the sale, but this was an Apple App Store issue and nothing to do with my app, It is inicredibly annoying for me too, but please don't post negative reviews just because you couldn't get the offer. I will have more offers coming as I always do.

  • Ok, I think I've fixed the crashing issues in RetroLab on iOS26.5 and will be releasing a fix soon. I just need a few more people to verify the fix, but its worked for 2 users so far.

I know people point the finger and say I should have fixed the bugs prior to release, but I released RetroLab prior to the release of iOS26.5. To be honest iOS26.5 is a total mess, and let's hope Apple fix their bugs quickly, because I'm seeing a lot. I've spent two weeks solid working on this crashing issue, made worse by the fact it worked on all 7 of my iPads and iPhones, all actually using iOS26.5. Add to that I've not actually received any crash logs during this period that confirmed it was RetroLab causing the crash. It was actually a system API crashing, which explains why I never got any valid reports.

In the good old days of iOS musicians we used to stay one step behind the current iOS builds for this reason. Even Jonatan the AUM developer is still on iOS18.

So I'm looking to release version 1.07 in the coming days which should finally fix all the issues so hold tight.
