Music Has the Right to Children is the masterpiece album I think, Geogaddi also had moments of brilliance, but BoC have been slowly going downhill since, I reckon.

100% agree with you here. And to be fair, it's a _very _rare artist or group who stays consistent or even improves late in their career. Even the greats like David Bowie who remain prolific and avoid becoming stagnant never hit the peaks of their nascent years. Not to say that a new album wouldn't be much appreciated, though.

Meanwhile, completely off-topic, but Rick Beato once again is bitching about the Spotify Top 10 in his latest video. I'm thinking to myself, "Bro, chill the fuck out, man. 😂 There's better shit out there on Soundcloud and Youtube." Some people just like to complain though.

True! As much as I like his interviews, bashing music that's not his thing is as useless as it gets. Like trying to explain people why their personal taste must be changed.

Edit - Think I just passed the 10-times mark of how many times I listened to "Tape 05". 😂 It's pure Ambient gold.

Agreed, this track and the one from '78 😊

I know you're one of the Gadget power users around here (if I recall correctly). I plan to make more attempts at Boards of Canada music in Gadget and master it with a tape effect, bark filter, and Cubasis' Brickwall. Making sure to use Youlean's Loudness Meter to get my levels where I want them. ❤️

Gadget has everything we need indeed!
And the recent versions have better effects now.

    +1
Last year I experimented with IFX to simulate LoFi-tape in Gadget:
    Decimator (noise) > 2 Flangers (wow & flutter) > Phaser > Saturator

    📼

I remember the first time I listened to MHTRTC -it was a summer afternoon, and I was packing up my apartment, getting ready to leave Poland, where I’d been living for a few years. The Polish girl I’d been dating for about half a year was sleeping as I packed, somehow not woken up by the BoC which I was blasting pretty loud 🤣. I listened to that album as I packed, and I remember at the time realising a few tracks into it that this was probably going to be one of the most profound audio experiences of my life. It did not disappoint!

+1 Music Has the Right to Children is epic from beginning to end. Impossible to pick one track in particular. Geogaddi has also a special place in my heart as it is the first one I heard from them and is full of great moment.

I always did find one song odd from the rest.
I think its called roycvib or something.
I really like high scores album

Roygbiv (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). There's a nice kid's song by they might be giants teaching the colour spectrum although theirs is Roy G. Biv and he's a gnome:)

It did. On my third listen as we speak. It's incredible! 🤯 Well worth the wait. And the two pieces are on Spotify now as well under the album name. I can't wait for 28 May!

  • This one's pretty cool!

  • Two...more...days...away! Holy shit.

  • Many thanks to @jwmmakerofmusic for alerting me to BOC. I’m halfway through the new album and it’s wonderful.

  • First BoC album that hasn't disappointed me since Geogaddi. Lovely stuff!

  • Reach for the Dead on Tomorrow’s Harvest

Just finished it, and as @Gavinski said - lovely stuff! ❤️ What an amazing album! I need to relisten to it again.

  • I’m enjoying it for sure, but strange that it’s panned by the Guardian as a disappointment. I usually agree with their reviews.

Boards of Canada: Inferno review – after 13 years away, their prodigal return is a big disappointment
    (Warp)

The Scottish electronic duo remain hugely influential – but their new album’s interrogation of religion is dubious, and the drum programming is worse still

Yeah haha, I think they're on the wrong side of history with that review tbh, but each to their own!

  • And in a funny way, I'm grateful for that review, because I read it before I heard the album. It meant I had lower expectations going in, which is always a good thing!

What shit are they smoking? 😂 I'd like to know what substance to avoid so I can continue enjoying "Inferno".

  • I saw it here first. The Quietus has been an abundant source of new music recommendations, so much so that I became a subscriber… https://thequietus.com/quietus-reviews/boards-of-canada-inferno/
