Heat related cpu throttling

Out of the blue my Loopy sessions started causing glitches and showing increased CPU load in Loopy as well as Drambo.

I thought maybe I’ve accidentally disabled CPU save in layer switch modules in Drambo but it’s not the case however I’ve noticed that my iPad is rather hot.

Power save feature throttles the CPU which made me think that perhaps iOS also uses throttling when a device gets too hot.

Any thoughts on this?

Did the version of Loopy or Drambo you are using change?

I honestly can’t remember whether I’ve updated loopy before or after the event but now it seems to be running ok. Drambo hasn’t had any beta updates for at least couple of weeks so it’s not it.

I’ll keep an eye on it.

  • iOS does throttle CPU to keep heat under control. People over on the Loopy discord are always seeking ways to cool their mobile rigs because of this.

  • @supadom @wim : if the beta version is being used, it should run cooler than the App Store version given the same load -- if that is turning out not to the be the case, please let us know on Slack.

  • I need a cooling solution, its my dang folio is whats the problem, not the Extra midi clip

  • iPad cover.

  • I sometimes put a mini fan next to device while charging or using for long periods of time. You can get all kinds of them in store or on amazon for $5-$10. I bought it for hot weather and exercising but it also comes in handy for cooling the tablet if needed. Mine even doubles as a power bank.
