App to reverse search guitar chords?
I swear I have an app that lets me reverse search guitar chords, but I can’t remember what it is.
So, for example, it would show a fret board and I could enter the fingering for a C chord, and it would reverse search for a C. I thought tonality had the feature, but if it does I can’t seem to figure it out.

Tonality
I'm not exactly sure what you mean but there is an app called ChordBank and I think it does what you're discussing:

Fabulous?

I hacked an app that pulling the chords of a song from ultimate-guitar and create the chord pad surface for it. I never released it of course because I'm afraid of the copyright issues etc
Chord! Definitely does it. Great app all around.
You tap the fretboard diagram to add notes, and it shows you possible chords with those notes.

As @espiegel123 says, Tonality does indeed do this. It's one of its core use cases.
Open the app, tap the guitar icon, then tap the mini fretboard to open up bigger version. Tap on the strings on the desired fret and you'll dynamically see compatible chords displayed on the left of the screen.
Couldn't be much simpler IMHO. Tonality is a fantastic app 🙂
What Chord?

Hey @FizzyLizzy27 - my guess is you were looking in the Chard Detection Tonality plugin. That's where I naturally looked for it at first. It's not there, it's in the Chord Pads plugin, in the edit mode.
Ok, Tonality was what I was thinking of. I forgot that tapping the mini fretboard let you search.
Thanks everyone!
That’s a really good idea. Ultimate Guitar lets you export chords of a song as a text/PDF file. If your app could create chord pads from general text/PDF files that would be useful, UG or otherwise
I'm late to the party, but I'm the developer of Reverse Chord Finder Pro — it does exactly this for guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, and piano. Happy to answer any questions!
Ah haha, pity, yes that would be popular 😂😂

edit:
I made a python script for this a few years ago. It’s limited to diatonic scales (major, natural, harmonic and melodic minors), but it supports 3 and 4 notes chords, with provision for omit1 and omit5 (with chords with extensions), so it may show several possible chords for the same notes
I will share the script if anyone wants to give a look.
I also did a pythonista app using the algo and a simple fretboard ui. But it’s an old project that I might need to revisit, yet suited my needs at the time and was a great learning experience
This one looks good, the songwriting one as well
@Krupa Its good yes. Someone already mentioned it though. Facepalm
