In My Heart Remix

This is a remix of something I did back in January 2023. I invited members to add to it. @AlterEgo_UK, @GeoTony, and @pbelgium took up the challenge and added some awesome new dimensions. It’s still there if anyone is curious. It’s called “An invitation for collaboration.” The original was at 90 bpm. I was interested in seeing what would happen if I added some new things at 120 bpm. What could possibly go wrong?

I jokingly asked my wife if I should to a “dance” remix. She said “Do something that you could dance to.” I added two sections with a dance beat. I didn’t dance so much as stand in one spot and do “the wave.” When I was done, she said “Honey, you know I love you, but promise me you will never do that in public.”

  • More audio alchemy Paul! The vocal gives me a Kate Bush vibe but just a little sped up which makes sense if you needed to push a sample up a few semitones. I find your arranging processes to be magical and I have this intense desire to deconstruct your processes and I suspect I’m not close because the results are a byproduct of the selected materials you use.

  • Getting some serious Björk energy from this and loving it! I remember this track. I messed with it for a while trying to make a DnB track in Ableton Note but couldn’t ever get the vocal to sound right. Now that Live has stem separation, I should give it another go!

Listening again, yeah early Björk, especially when the kick comes in, also when it drops out and when the vocal comes back. This is very nice! And welcome back!! I know you’ve dropped a couple of tracks recently but I don’t think I’ve commented before.

  • I really love this piece! It's different from your standard run-of-the-mill EDM. :) Rich soundscapes and lovely vocals overtop nice drums.

Alchemy is probably a good description. I’m still waiting for the gold. My processes are definitely not magical. All I do is put short layers of audio on the timeline, arranged in groups, A, B, C etc. I use the track Freeze function to turn all MIDI into audio. Then I normalize it so everything has a common level. I usually run all individual MIDI patterns through multiple synths to created a layered sound. Unless I use the track Notepad, I lose track of the synths that I use. That’s the main reason I don’t include a detailed inventory with each post. I have been playing around with using different tempos within a song. The results are unpredictable. Happy accidents. However, I try lots of different combinations, so accidents are likely to occur more often. A benefit to this is that the mixdowns go very quickly. Usually less than a minute. On the downside, I end up with a lot of tracks. This one has 35 tracks. Each track has a small amount of audio content. When I do the final mixdown, everything resolves to two tracks, left and right stereo, and nobody can tell the difference.

Hope you are doing well. It’s quite nice here in Chiraq. Have a good one!

    Edit:
In case you ever want to sing along…

    In my heart
    With you
    In my heart
    Boom Boom
    (repeat)

    LOL :p

I remember the first time I heard Björk. The song was Human Behavior. I thought… she is far out! However, I can only take her in small doses. I don’t think I could sit through an entire album. We are both Icelandic, so it’s entirely possible that we are related.

I enabled downloads for the original. Please feel try to give it another try. Whenever someone does this, I consider it a high compliment. Thank you!

Thank you, Jim! I have been revisiting a lot of my older material recently. Some of them work well with a strong beat. Others not so much. I tried it with that “Way Out” song. It’s bizarre. A bit too much!

Ever since these iPads came out, there are millions of new composers vying for attention. I’m just trying to be a bit different in the hope of getting some plays. It’s not all that important, but it’s nice when a few people listen. I don’t ever expect to make a living with it, but I’m nearing retirement anyway.

We are thinking of visiting Taliesin in August. Maybe we can meet for lunch on the way back. Have a great day!

Yeah, I don't make a living off of streams but rather side change from music production work. ❤️ Otherwise I enjoy the act of creating for what it is - creating.

Gonna check out the Frank Lloyd Wright museum I take it? :) I'd love to meet you and your wife for lunch. We can figure out logistics and location in DMs.

@jwmmakerofmusic Yes. We have seen everything in Illinois. Went to the Robie House two weeks ago. I was a little disappointed, though. The foundation is doing renovations, and there was no furniture, except for the main room. FLW designed the furniture for his houses. He also designed clothes to be worn in the house! He was quite a character. Talk to you later.

Interesting to say the least. :) Yep, ttyl mate.

  • Yep, this is a good track, and it was fun collaboration. Really cool remix. I get a Kate Bush vibe too, probably did the first time round as well.

  • Blimey 3 years since the original Paul… time flies when etc etc..
Nice the hear it again even though I also don’t have a dancing bone in my body !

  • @pbelgium @GeoTony Hi guys. That was definitely fun. I think there may be at least one more taker, so I enabled downloads again. Lately I have been revisiting my older stuff and trying to improve it. I’ve had a few years of experience now, and think I can make it better. Some are just little tweaks like a click at the end of the track. Others are complete overhauls. I’m working (playing) with an old track I called “Sphere”. I don’t know if I should repost it on LPF. I know people do remixes all the time, so maybe I will… or not.

Blimey! I haven’t heard that word in years. Years ago I had a client in the UK. He said that all the time. I liked how it sounded and started using it myself.

    Have a great day!
