I stumbled upon this vid a while back but stopped watching it cause it seems to follow the same format as the other content-scraping-repackaged AI generated videos.
I’d love to be wrong though.
I’d rather hear a long-winded story from one of the forum’s venerable boomers about seeing someone like Prince play live 😉💙
I wasn’t familiar so for others
Same here! I hope someone chimes in with stories of their own of seeing Prince live!
I only wish I got the opportunity to see him live in concert.
Thanks mate!
I appreciate it.
I remember when that performance happened. Yes it’s true Prince had been snubbed and showed people that he could keep up with any player from his generation. I tought he did a killer solo at the time and still do. I don’t know what the disrespectful solo is all about. I could no watch more that a minute.
I did see Prince live one in one of his infrequent tour in Canada. I was surprised the he only toured Canada 10 times in his entire career. Surprising since the fans were super excited.
So I am a metal guy and I have seen over 100 concerts. But le me tell you Prince was in my top 5 concerts. He was the whole package. He played guitar, bass and piano during the concert. He was an incredible singer, dancer, entertainer, comedian, politician. It had to be experienced.
The jazz saxophonist Maceo Parker was playing the sax solos on the tour. I was seated on the balcony. Then a sax solo starts and I was woundering wheres Maceo? Then I realised the sax was becoming really loud. I turned to my right and there was Maceo soloing away.
I’ve enjoyed Prince’s music and appreciated his showmanship since way back but definitely not a superfan. I recently started listening to an Exclusively Prince internet station and hearing a lot of things of his I hadn’t heard before (so much music, so little time). I’ve been blown away by his range of styles! And styles of guitar playing! I usually avoid yt so can’t comment on the humanness of the video you posted but loved learning the backstory of the video I posted. I hadn’t seen that video before either. I was laughing and crying 🤣!! What a beautiful genius!!
Thank you for posting the video you did!
Holy shit! 🤯 That sounds like an incredible experience! Man I wish I was there. The "disrespectful solo" was a gimmick about how Prince showed up the rest of those clowns who snubbed him by playing the shit out of the guitar instead of "sticking to the safe and predictable solo", or some shit like that in the video. Sometimes it's hard to tell AI and not-AI videos apart these days, but nevertheless it was a fun video to watch.
Of course, mate.
I like to share interesting tidbits and stuff on occasion here, especially as I try to grow my songwriting abilities beyond "basic Pop". 🫣
Although I didn’t had the chance to see Prince perform live, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Paisley Park (as a European tourist). Great to be able to visit those rooms and see that gear that made his magic happen. With a talent and persona Prince had and Paisley Park as a personal playground, i.m.o you’re allowed to have an ego.
Very cool! Did he really have his own basketball court? I ask cause of that Dave Chappelle skit, lol.
That’s what I’m talking about! Thanks for sharing that awesome experience Uncle Ecou.
@Blipsford_Baubie
Didn’t see a basketball court but that doesn’t say he didn’t got one. But I did see a lot of guitars, the/ a Linn, OB-8, Studers, lots of expensive outboard gear and a Behringer cabletester.
That Prince skit, along with his Rick James skit, are legendary comedy gold! 😂 Dave Chappelle is a treasure.
😆 👍
I still list Prince Sign o the Times tour concert as my #1 favorite live experience. To say that the guy was a "next level" musician and performer doesn't really begin to describe the degrees to which he was better than anyone else I've seen. Once in a generation talent, IMHO.
What shit is this. I saw a similar one with a fantasy view of Eddie Van Halen maliciously deceiving the world by playing a different amp on stage to the one he recorded in the studio. What is wrong with these wankers?
@Ailerom Get this hostility out of my thread. If you don't like it, ignore it. 🤷♂️
This video has some factual basis, but exaggerates a revenge motive (based on a theory advanced in a New York Times Magazine article and not really corroborated anywhere else) and, more importantly, doesn't, in more than twelve minutes of talk and repeated random footage from the event, play a single note of one of the greatest guitar solos of modern history. Because to do so would run afoul of YouTube's copyright policy (specifically, its automated audio enforcement; it seems the video enforcement lags behind) and get the video yanked. Spare yourself the mediocre, derivative chatter and go watch the original broadcast footage with its glorious audio (if you haven't already seen it already; watch the full song, not just the final solo, to get the full effect), and maybe read a few reputable journalistic sources (if they're not behind paywalls or swamped by AI copycats) to get some of the backstory.
Thanks @plragde . Appreciate your suggestion.
Here, I have linked the "director's cut" from Joel Gallen. I think Dhani Harrison's unabashed grins say it all.
Can't wait to watch this after my gig. ☺️
