Dogmerica: chapter 1, Humanity Vanishes
I posted a promo piece about a quartet of time traveling dogs. This is how the story begins.
I couldn’t be more amazed at what the AI technology can accomplish. From my POV it is a collaboration with an Alien Intelligence (Yuval Harari calls AI “Alien Intelligence”). Here are my current observations
1 I may need to try this in earnest some time period from now. There are costly problems. With Vidmuse and other platforms (as @MadeofWax has informed me) lip syncing and facial expressions while speaking are difficult. More frustrating is that when you try to correct something in a scene Vidmuse will correct it but change other things which you want to keep!
You’ll notice in this that the dog’s coat changes. This can be corrected but it takes time and repetition and time is money! Other things are not so easy because it feels like the landscape is shifting beneath your feet. This AI has memory problems! I’m sure, just like in IOS, developers will debug the programs. So, maybe in a year it will be more flawless?
- I’m way impressed with the music generation. We fed the hook “GONE, GONE, GONE” into it and it did a wonderful job as you will hear (though you may rile at the “usurpation” of authorship by an alien). It’s not a problem for me because, though, I’m an ok songwriter, I could never do this!!
What you don’t get is originality, but for my intended commercial purpose, which is for the listener
(Mostly kids) to feel a familiarity with music they’ve heard and is catchy.. (and how much of “original” music we hear is exactly that?).
I’ve shown this to adult non musicians and they loved it. Frankly, I do, too.
- The onus is on the user, IMO. Two creators could be tasked with the same project and come up with very different results, and one may be a lot better than the other. Perhaps it’s a poor analogy
but, like any machine the operator makes the difference, like professional car drivers. The driving skill separates the “geniuses” from the “amateurs”.
I understand this is controversial, and isn’t that good as long as the discussion is civil? I mean, we can be ostriches all we want but that is not going to stop technolical progress. IMO we have to adapt and that is our foremost human quality. Human athletes will never be able to compete just as the horse never won against the locomotive. There were sf stories decades ago of robot athletes competing against other robots. There will be the same pleasures and problems with robots, gambling, rigging the contests, favorite robot athletes who attain fame… frankly, we have no choice.
I imagine, one day soon, there will be originality within AIs grasp as well.
Comments welcome, but our ability, as humans, is to control our emotions in order to understand each other. We can all gain from this discussion. Thank you!
Here is the original promo if you’re curious…

Guess I'll be the first to respond (unless someone beats me to it as I'm typing this up), lol. Just want to address one thing...
Yes, you can, through learning and practice. 😌 If I can wrangle my ADHD brain in and learn, anyone can. 😂 And I'm sharing that journey here...

Now, it's not impossible to get to a higher level of natural non-AI songwriting. The only thing that's impossible is to get up to, say, Prince's level of songwriting. Realistically, nobody will ever be able to match that high level of skill, not even me.
But, we can both strive to improve our prose is what I'm saying.
As you can see in my thread, I'm going mostly the "analog route" of songwriting - pen and paper. The only digital tools I use are thesaurus(dot)com, rhymezone, and my DAWs of choice. (Although I might just buy a rhyming dictionary and thesaurus from Amazon to reduce my digital footprint just a little more.)
That said, I do find it fascinating that you're coming up with a concept album based on a libretto you wrote. I myself wish to come up with concept albums myself (or at least concept EPs), but instead of using AI, I want to write songs in the vein of Roger Waters and how he and other members of Pink Floyd would concoct these amazing Rock Operas. Or write meaningful songs like John Lennon and Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. I want to move beyond the one-off "EDM bangers" I'm used to producing and dive into some uncharted territories I've yet to dive into.
Planning a concept album/EP in such a way will require a lot of work, but I'm willing to put forth that work.
About the video itself, it's a'ight. It does the job it seems. But it's lacking the "human touch" in my opinion. The "imperfections" and "quirks" and other qualities that make a piece of human-made music magical. Of course the same could be said (and was said) of samplers and drum machines. Your improvs and other human-made pieces were magical due to the creative choices, the quirks, etc that were lovingly put into each piece of music you created. I hope you do "return to form" in the future once your "Dogmerica" project is complete. ❤️ I'd like to hear more Jazz improvs from you, mate.
