New iPhone! What apps do you actually use on iPhone?
new phone, who dis?
I got the iPhone 17 Pro Max for my birthday today, and that means my phone might be usable for music making.
I’m coming from an iPhone 12 Pro. Between that phone’s battery always on the verge of death, no working lightning port which meant no audio interface to plug my guitar/Launchkey into, which also meant no wired headphones, and the screen was kinda tight (hence the Pro Max this time around) it wasn’t usable outside of pulling up AUM to quickly open setups or test something.
So, what do you actually use on your phone? I’ve been mostly using my iPads up to this point.

Comments
AUM for sure. I’ve had to use my iPhone in a pinch during a gig when my iPad died. I use it for my amp/ guitar chain.
GeoShred
Fugue Machine
Guitarism
Pianoteq
Sunrizer
Connect to any peripherals either direct Bluetooth or through a CME WIDI (also Bluetooth)
I also have this vision of having a self contained production environment in Gadget or Cubasis. So those are on there and get limited use.
Enjoy the phone! How’s the camera??
I mainly use FL Studio Mobile and Auxy Studio on my iPhone. The UIs are easy to read, and they don't really drain the phone's battery all that much compared to Gadget and Cubasis 3. Both apps feature lots of sounds!
FL Studio Mobile has a lot of great sounds, and you can use Files to manage all of said sounds. Image-Line even recently added a soundfont player to FL Studio Mobile which expands the sound capabilities even further. Plus a great handful of synths are included (including the 3xOSC synth from FL Studio).
Auxy Studio has an amazing vast library of sounds that you can access from online as you go along in a production (it doesn't store its GBs of samples onto the iPhone's internal storage). Yes, an online connection is required for Auxy Studio, but a phone is always connected to some sort of network (whether mobile data, or your wireless internet). Great for on-the-go ideas and full productions. (In fact, I produced an entire album last year in Auxy Studio.)

(Only caveat to Auxy Studio is it is subscription pricing, but it's only six a month and well worth it. And @lenberg constantly updates it.)
I do sometimes use Cubasis 3 on iPhone for mastering my tracks as opposed to airdropping the unmastered audio onto my iPad to master it. To master my tracks on iPhone (and iPad), I use BarkFilter's Tripleband Preset, followed by Cubasis' Brickwall set to -1dB, and Youlean's Loudness Meter. All of these appear rather well on the small screen.
I also use Cubasis 3 for vocal recording and processing, with Brusfri for noise cleanup, Cubasis' channel strip for a little tape saturation, and Cubasis' Brickwall to even out the volume. Cubasis also has a great IAP plugin called Waves Tune RT for tuning vocals (and goodness knows my sour demo vocals require that in order to convey the song across to an actual singer, lol). It also has good routing capabilities for using DerVoco for vocoding vocals ala Daft Punk.
I also use IA Writer for writing down notes, lyrics ideas, etc. I much prefer that to the Notes app (IA Writer has a cleaner interface that gets out of the way).
Anyways, Koala Sampler fits nicely on the iPhone.
And here's a thread of recommended plugins to use within Koala Sampler on iPhone.

All the best.
Sorry for the longwinded post, Fizzy.
Koala Sampler is without any doubts what so ever my most used music app on the iPhone 16.
Loopy Pro!
You can make a nice phone ready template like this:
Or this:
Drambo on my tiny iphoneSE with lots of layer mixer modules and AUs. Still doesn’t crackle, except for when I’m using the search box. Can easily transfer to my newer ipad whatever i build. Have fun whatever you do!
All the Cem bud apps are great on da phone
Koala, aum, a few synths, pop/soft drummer.
Ableton Note, great collection of sounds and you get full access to Drift now. Makes good use of the limited screen real estate too.
I do almost everything on my iPhone.
Current workflow apps: AUM, AudioShare, Solderbox, Mononoke, Drambo, Pure Acid, Rymdigare, TB Barricade, TB ReelBus, Koala, BLEASS Chorus, BLEASS Dragonfly, Artifacts, Tardigrain, BattleFX, and Afterglow
Previously used apps: Cubasis, EG Nodes, NanoStudio 2, BLEASS Alpha, TB Flowtones, Agonizer, Shockwave, Hilda, Ruismaker Noir, EG Pulse, and many many more.
I really really wish that Continua was available on iPhone. It’s the only app currently that makes me break out the iPad.
All of @Rob_Jackson_Music apps
All of Baby Audio apps
All of four pocket apps
All of Audio Damage Apps
All of Audio Kits Apps
All of Bram Bos Apps
All of Korg Apps
AUM
Loopy
Drambo
Honestly, everything that runs on iPhone get’s a rotation on mine. I like making music on my iPhone. It’s always with me and my iPad is not. I was donating plasma earlier, juggling between AUM, YouTube, Patreon, loopy forums.
Prism MIDI Sequencer is amazingly usable on the iPhone. There's just nothing like it that you can do so much in so comfortably on the platform. Learning it is ... uh ... well ... let's just say you had better enjoy patiently discovering things and have pretty good retention of details. Once you start to get it though, it's awesome.
I love AUM but don't like using it on the phone at all. Loopy works much better for me.
Drambo has it all, and adapts surprisingly well to phone, despite all that it does.
Koala. I haven't really used the AU hosting on the phone, but core Koala feels like it was born for using on the phone.
@wim
Agh, can't believe I forgot Prism!
Good looking out!
I think the real follow on question is: "to do what?"
It still surprises me all the time how manageable it is on the phone.
Also for killing time in quick bursts - Auxy Studio as I mentioned. Think I ought to dig back into Drambo after 5 years of not using it. 🫣 Lol.
Gadget.
Starting a project on iPhone and continuing on iPad with iCloud sync.
Good call!
Koala is a great little always-ready recorder for out and about, or humming and layering ideas while procrastinating over the washing up.
I did have iMono/Poly as a sound module going into the SP, any synths you like would do that.
Pretty much all I'd use the phone for though, iPad wins hands-down for everything else. If I had a regular train commute I'd still take the iPad.
I wouldn't want to risk my iPad getting stolen. 🫣 Lol. That's the only reason I don't tote my iPad everywhere with me.
Also worth bearing in mind is what your headphone situation is likely to be.
If you've got your wired 'phones and converter dongle with you you're good, but any BlueTooth audio has the latency issue, so realtime tapping in Koala, etc, isn't happening. Apps with their own sequencer work fine though.
Since the new release of naive tracker has brought it to the consciousness of this forum again in a small way, Nanoloop is fantastic on a phone screen. Extremely capable musical playground once you dig into it.
Other golden oldies like Thumb/Drum jam are also great on a phone.
Absolutely 😬! There's places I've lived I definitely wouldn't risk carrying it 😂
The place where I live currently, exactly! Goodness! 😂
They implemented that well early on.
My project list in Gadget goes back to 2015 and they open perfectly today. Over 11 years and 5 different iPhones/iPads.
Yah, it has been so stable for me, never a broken project or wtf moment loading old stuff. Downright civilized. I just wish the project organization was better.
I prefer the default, all projects in one chronological list. Name and date is enough for me.
But you can organise in subfolders if you want.
Lately it’s been Ableton Note and AUM with sorts of noise makers driven mostly by Octachron and PhaseChimes
Back in the days puffs cigarette I used apps you’re not old enough to have heard of
Nowadays? I use that dancing robot one. No I’m kidding, I use drambo cause its only limit is my imagination
Oh Beatly Pro is another one I used to use. Was helpful to get some grooves started since drums are probably my weakest area.
Dagger,
euclidean Sequencer,
Yonac apps (fx and synths)
Sunrizer (kinda tiny)
AudioThings emulators (really tiny)
All Bleass apps
