Was this app really worth $10.00? I was interested in it and wrote to the developer asking for a link to a video so I could see it in action. I couldn't find the video on YouTube. Three days passed, and he still hasn't responded.

Careful bro, last time someone complained about this app a random new account spawned and made an essay on github about the "gatekeeping in the iOS audio apps community".

I made a harsh comment on this app mainly because I could not find a developer contact. My bad. I would have conversed with said developer to see if he could fix it.

    What is the developer contact?

I have the app and could not get a refund.

In summary, it only gives one chord progression for each option one selects (ie Dark pop chorus starter) no matter how many times you press generate for that option it gives same chord progression. You can manually change the chords in the progression and there is a helper to show you which chords will be good.

Version 1 also gave the same melody, bass, arp part upon generate but an update has added a next idea button that slightly changes the melody, bass and arp whilst keeping the same chord progression always when pressing generate. Further down there is a regenerate button that regenerates the parts upon adjusting certain parameters.

A major problem is the internal synth makes everything sound chiptune so hiphop or cinematic or changing parameters and “regenerating” basically sounds the same. Comprehensive export allows one in theory to make the most of these genres in other apps with multiple instruments but I haven’t tested it yet. It would be better to be able to connect other app instruments like sequentia can, less convenient but sounds wonderful and the random button rocks it.

The update has introduced a bug when the drop down doesn’t seem to work to select other genres. I’m stuck on dark pop chorus starter even though the drop down controls within this “genre” allow me to pick sub genres like hip hop (yep I’m confused).

You can edit apparently the bass, melody and arp but it is so clunky I gave up (I’m using an older iPad so that might be the reason).

I was hoping to get a new chord progression in a certain genre with the subsequent matching bass, melody and arp every time I press the generate. It can probably be fixed.

So what was that developer contact?

  • A member just created and released a sweet, free to use web app, called defOult. Its a web based drum machine or midi sequencer. Can be used in browser, or with web midi app.

Good catch, that explains the iceworks sale. My guess is the IAP unlock might be on an into sale too at $20. Other options are 7 day free trial $0.00, and tips.

  • New Release - Iceworks

I would say that reading, or at least scanning the manual is required before the purchase/complaint cycle begins
    https://icegear.net/products/mochizuki/manual/
It operates a smidge different, but not too too dissimilar to other iceGear offerings like nambu

    Also read the important notice
    https://icegear.net/products/mochizuki/notice/

Also the mathematician the synth is names after (either that or iceGear broke with their tradition and stated naming synths after sports people - like tennis)

    Cheers, for sharing this info.

Im always slightly curious about which mathematician they choose.

  • When we’re looking at new apps that might turn out to be stunted or limited in some way, it’s worth bearing in mind that a lot of music apps might not actually be for us, they might be mainly aimed at youngsters who want to have a bit of fun messing about with friends rather than actually do a full production with it – hence it might be just a toy.
