JWM Urban Sketching

Taking up a new hobby. Instead of cartooning and such, I decided to try some urban sketching instead. Here's my first attempt, aka the inside of my apartment (well, one side of it).

I did this in the Concepts app on my Wacom Movink 11 tablet. A friend of mine sent me this pic, and this will be what I sketch next.

Cheers all.

  • I forgot to say this digital urban sketching hobby is inspired by Teoh on Tech on Youtube.

Those are his two Youtube channels.

  • I really like your first attempt, Jim! Curious to see some more.

    Well, wish granted mate. ☺️

I even included a funny wolf character in the sketch. 😂

    Nice!

    Thanks mate. :)

  • Lol, I lost interest in urban sketching already and went back to cartooning as well as working on client work (beat for a rapper, remixes for another client).

Maybe you’ll come back to it later, Jim. I been looking at your sketches for what it’s worth, just not commenting. I do have a thing for urban spaces. Especially urban garden spaces. I like industrial urban decay too.

I like those kinds of spaces too. :) When you said "urban garden space", I immediately thought of the Great Wall of China. So I sketched it here...

I guess I just needed to get inspired to do another urban sketch rather than cartooning, lol.

  • These are good, @jwmmakerofmusic. Stay in that creative flow buddy! Thanks for sharing your art.

Will do. :) Thanks for the compliment, my friend.

I admit something though - I rushed the Great Wall sketch, because it was right close to supper. 🤣 Usually I like to spend 30-60 minutes on an urban sketch.

  • Tomorrow, I think I'll try trad urban sketching as opposed to digital in Concepts. I have a 5.5"x8.5" Canson mixed media pad and ballpoint pens. My goal is to do more "on location" sketches as opposed to sketching from photo references and such, to develop my mind's eye better.

  • Done traditionally with ballpoint on mixed media paper.

  • Nice, is that a hospital?

Unsure if it's a hospital, bank, or apartment building. :) I can check Google Maps.

Edit - It's a law firm building?! I never knew that, lol. But I enjoyed sketching this this morning "on location".
