Portable controller advice
I have a live setup with mics going into an interface and then AUM mixer on an m4 ipad air. I typically use four mic channels and a handful of mix buses to a master channel.
I have never used a controller (I'm historically an acoustic musician) but now I'm shopping for one. I know I need at least four channels (but it might be smart to have more for the future), I'm agnostic re: pot vs fader, I definitely want buttons I can use as mutes and solos, and I'm very comfortable with physical mixer ergonomics (mackie, a&h, that kind of thing), so I should probably have something that emulates that setup.
But I need it to be small--my whole setup is tiny and I want to keep it that way.
So far I've looked at the Faderfox UC4 which is smol, sturdy, but expensive. And the Korg Nanokontrol Studio, which has bluetooth, great functionality, and cheap, but a little bigger than I'm hoping for.
I'd love some suggestions!

Off topic, but keep in mind that AUM has no pickup / takeover mode. If your hardware knobs or faders don't match up with AUM then there will be a jump when you move them. You may want to consider other hosts that have pickup / takeover mode and that can also support relative encoders if you get something like a Faderfox.
It's hard to go wrong with the M-Vave SMC Mixer. https://a.co/d/0i2VQCN2
+1
the m-vave smc mixer is cool and that price is incredible, but I must admit I'm a little concerned about durability and build quality on tour
It seems a lot more solidly built than the nanokontrols tbh haha
Interesting! I mainly included the nanokontrol because I know a few people who tour with it, but maybe they're just careful or risky idk
Anyway, I'd love more suggestions!
The Nanokontrol is very tough, but it’s also easy to knock off the knobs and sliders and lose them.
when the knobs and sliders don’t hold well, one can put the controller in a small bag during transport. Often there is one included in the package, and if not, I use a bag from some other gear of similar size. I have quite a choice from film and photography gear, so each one thing has its little bag. One for the controller, one for the power, one for the cables and USB C hub, one for each intruments, etc.
Anyone fw intech grid controllers?
They are good modular customizable but after several not inexpensive. You might, depending on your setup, want to stick with things like m-valve mixer or go one step up (or sidestep) to notations kontrol or faderfox or similar
Or get the newest shiny that I’ve been eyeballing

damn that's nice
@audiblevideo - can those encoders do absolute MIDI CC output in addition to relative MIDI? Just checking because this is for AUM, and AUM doesn't support relative input.
took me a minute even with "search summarization" but i finally confirmed 14bit relative AND absolute control

(the electra mini is $412 USD vs the Oxi e16 at $499 △ of roughly $88)
@audiblevideo - thanks. I figured it must, but tbh I immediately walked away from that obnoxious web page where all that happens when you try to scroll around or find more information is the photograph zooms in and out. Web sites like that just burn me up. Looks like an OK controller though.
I feel you (especially as a designer)

I haven't tried either of them but people tend to swear by the twister.
What about the Launch Control 3 (not the XL)
