Using samples
So I have a ton of my samples on my external hard drive, but how do I go about accessing those samples and importing them into my various apps?

You'll probably need a USB hub.
For USB-C equipped iPad Pros it's just a matter of plugging your external HD into the hub, then it really depends on the app.
I went ahead and did the cloud thing… got a larger GB iCloud and yank my samples from there. It does create issues with some apps trying to access large directory drives over the network- but the process frees me from HW that I will potentially lose or damage.
