According to the Internet, the mini 4 is indeed 2gb ram. The mini 4 has a lower spec processor.
Depends what your usage needs are. I personally don't run loads of apps at once, but my Air2 could easily cope with way more than I throw at it. I'm sure for most usage, the mini4 would cope at this time. As with all things though, both these devices will eventually struggle to cope as software pushes the power needs. I don't see that happening for a while though for two reasons. Apple need to make the base iPad with more storage and more higher level storage options. The iPad app pricing model only works with high economies of scale, so Devs usually have to wait until the majority of iPad users are using iPads with 2gb of ram before they will take advantage of it.
i see, I tend not to use more than one app at a time or maybe have audioshare open as well, how big a diff do you think the lower spec processor on the 4 makes?
I would bet, you would have no issues at all. To me the bigger touch screen is a must, but the mini size would be great for working out and about. Many here swear by the minis.
I'm leaning towards the mini, my iPad 3 has got me paranoid lol, I think it's the only wrong purchase I've ever made.
Are you really struggling with the iPad 3? You say you usually use one or two apps at a time. Is this due to the iPad 3, or is that how you would mostly use an iPad? What iOS are you using?
Most apps at this time are not specific to iOS 9.
Very few apps take advantage of specific iOS 9 features.
With the above in mind, the answer to my questions above will help you decide.
Personally I see two choices:
Buy a more up to date model and get use out of it now. The mini would be just fine.
Or
Carry on with your iPad 3 for a year or two, I have a feeling the mini may be the first iPad to get the new touch feature of the new iPhone 6s. Just a guess though.
The only real speed bump that I would consider spending money on would be to get an iPad Pro. The speed improvement from Air 1 to Air 2 is just not going to make a huge difference.
I agree. It seems like the main advantage to the air 2 is the extra RAM.
I don't think I'm going to want to lug the pro around.
I agree with Seb. Or even better, wait until next year for Apple(if they do?) to bring out Pro 2.
Not a big speed bump but i can't say that often enough:the ram difference is huge and very noticeable in all tasks. Not to mention the splitscreen thing.Yes,not interesting yet for musicians but i found out something very interesting recently.Opening a movie or documantation in one browser (like chrome or mercury) and surfing in safari while having a small window in the bottom right corner with the movie.I love that
Yes I can say that the air 1 has never left me needing anything more as of yet. I am not sure on the limit but it handles several apps at once with no problem at all. If I ever have need for more power it will be nice to know I can upgrade then. I can only use so many apps at the same time comfortably anyway .
