NEW Lady App-titude track! Includes samples of Jakob and Doug of the soundtestroom - plus Watson!

I may have gone completely mental this time. Here's the backstory …

This entire twisted tale came to me in a flash upon hearing a single line uttered by jakoB haQ during a recent online Facetime chat with Doug Woods on the Sound Test Room. In that moment I could picture the whole thing in my head, including the Pixar-animated characters. Well, it took me nearly a month to sonically realize the concept, such as it is. (Alas, I never found a studio to fund the Pixar video!  :-) ).

Lemon Tart tells the story of a cock roach trying to seduce a lemon tart at a French cooking school. It includes samples of jakoB haQ and Doug Woods of thesoundtestroom.com, plus Watson (Doug's dog) taken from their recent online FaceTime chat, plus special guest rapper: Smoov Keef as "Roach Pierre".

90% done with UVI's Beathawk, with mixing and additional parts done in DAW.

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves. I give you:

Lemon Tart

    Shake'em up.@Lady_App_titude.

  • Thanks so much!

    Bon App-etit! :-)
  • A sonic a romp!
  • Really brilliant track, I'm really into funk right now
  • Thanks so much, Doug! This was a crazy zany project, and I didn't know exactly how it would all turn out. Having your (and Watson's?) thumbs up means a lot to me! ;-)

Yes, from James Brown to Cameo, I've definitely grooved on some funk in my time (and maybe a little Zappa influence in this? … I'm just  now realizing), but this is my first real foray into anything rap or hip hop. I laughed a lot coming up with the lyrics! Hope others do too!

What can I say--the idea is really cute, the execution is stylish and I find it the catchiest yet of your tunes.  I still think the bassline "references" a subset of Rick Derringer's Rock 'n Roll Hootchie Koo but, hey, it's an iconic lick!  Actually, your version of it is cooler!  And now that I've listened to it a bunch of times, it sounds like a single.
  • Sounds awesome Lady!

Merci! I definitely didn't consciously set out to nick the bassline from anything, but if I were to search for unconscious influences, maybe Paul Jackson from Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters? I do LOVE that Rick Derringer tune, however, and I'll take any comparison as a huge compliment!
  • Great stuff. I really like funk but you don't have to in order to enjoy this. Think I'll give it another listen.
  • Love this! Really well constructed with great sounds and a fantastic funky vibe! :)
