  • i cant see those apps nice at all (my head cant accept it, even if it can sound nice) and why the hell all the same icon just different colour?

Note that Cubasis and MTS do not currently support Audio Unit presets. Presets work perfectly with GarageBand and AUM.

    On our list for Cubasis!
    Have a great weekend everybody!

Thanks Lars, you too. And good to know.

So, Oh dear! Another AU only app. Can't use it with 99% of my other music apps in Audiobus or via IAA. Can't use it with Auria Pro. Can't use it. At least, not at the moment.

Could you run it in AUM and route the output from that into Audiobus then into Auria?

In fact you could run two in parallel with different patches for a mega synth?

    Just thinking out loud.

Thanks Lars - love the sound of Viking

  • P.S. It would be great if it could be polyphonic too?!

I don't have AUM yet @PhilW - Won't have until after I've got through tax season this year I don't think. So, until that time, I'm "stuck" with good 'ol Audiobus and not quite so good 'ol IAA.

The megasynth idea has a certain attraction.

  • I don't yet have AUM (hence the thinking out loud as I wasn't able test it) as I don't tend to play multiple apps live, I tend to play one at a time into a DAW to build up a track that way. But the idea to stack synths makes me think I may take another look. And even with the cost of that and Viking, it is way cheaper than buying a real Voyager!!

I work a similar way - but am loving AUM. Recording into the file player works great - similar to recording tracks into a daw timeline. Go for it - you won't be disappointed.

This sounds really good as a recreation, but it's missing that true oomph of an analog synth. I've been spoiled by the real thing. But hey, $5 vs $500 is nice value. Still prefer iMini for the iOS Moog route.

Does iMini work perfectly for you ? I always seem to get issues when working with iMini but I love the sound, I was hoping this would give me the same sort of sound without the issues.

Where can you get a Voyager for $500 ? I would Definitely be on that deal...

  • I'm curious... with such a plain vanilla graphic design of all these Blamsoft AU apps, why aren't they Universal? I'd have likely picked up at least a couple of them if they were universal.

I understand with more complex graphic UI approaches, it can be a trick to get the same functionality between iPad and iPhone, but with a very basic set of tools with a simple and flat graphic design, would these all be easy-peasy to offer as universal apps?

  • I'm thinking the main reason behind Blamsofts decision to go iPad first is based on the fact there was until a few days ago only one AU-Host for the iPhone, Garageband...

I'd bet, if they made these Universal now... instead of waiting until the market if flooded with new AU apps... they'd sell loads more while there's no competition. :)

Just put Midiflow in between and you can make sophisticated keyboard splits

    Neat!

Now if it'd only run on my 6 Plus... :(

Exactly!! What's up with developers making cool apps that don't support iPhones?!? Don't they know that if they build it we will buy?!?

I have the same problem - 6s up to date phone, very old iPad. I believe KQ MiniSynth is the only AU instrument for iPhone, and there are maybe like 2 AU effects on iPhone (Buttercup Bitcrush). I would buy them if they were there - wish the Blamsoft stuff was universal.

I'll be in touch with Andrew and let him know there's a demand for his apps to become universal. I'm not sure what the outcome will be. But at least he'll be aware of it.

    Awesome!! Thanks!!

I've never had a problem other than some strange tempo syncing issues that eventually went away.

Oh, I can't afford a Voyager hah. I recently got a Moog Rogue for $500. Even as the early 80's 'budget Moog', it was worth every single penny and more.

  • how do you save a patch? I can't find this in the docs, so sorry if it's there, but I just skipped past it accidentally.

I don't have AUM yet either, so I'm wondering about that? Can that set up work (Viking->AUM->AB->Cubasis/Auria Pro)? If so, I'll definitely need to get AUM, as I just purchased Viking Synth, and don't have MTS and I don't use GarageBand.

This is true. iMini is capable of a more meaty sound but there's still a lot to like in Viking. I am very happy with the purchase. Both the oscillators and filters are pretty unique in the iOS synth scene, I had a lot of fun already tweaking it and modulating.

  • It would be interesting to hear a comparison between iMini and Viking just like these guys did between a Model D and a Voyager

Yes, AUM can be selected as input and output in AB.

AuriaPro IAA with Fabfilter plugins/fx as needed. As I recall, I had tempo problems via Audiobus out to Cubasis, but that was a while ago.

The IAA/AB outputs of AUM can be loaded in Audiobus, Auria, Cubasis, MTS, or any IAA host really.

Cheers for the info, I've had issues with I mini when using as Iaa in both cubasis and mod step

  • Does this synth work stand-alone? I’ve yet to see evidence of any audio units working anywhere on my iPad.

It needs an audio units host and you need to be on iOS 9 for audiounits

I’m always on the latest iOS on my iPad 2, and I’ve got iSem and voice rack, voice jam studio and Garageband, but there’s some incompatibility preventing iSem from working with garageband. Consequently, I’ve never seen what an AU looks like or how or where it shows up. Do you think it would it appear as an AU (however that appears) with AUM?
