What was the point of buying it if you also cracked it?
I'm one of the Ableton forum admins, have you had some issues logging in recently?
I think he just means you need some valid license to post...
Just wanted to make sure he didn't already own a full copy of Live and was still having issues.
Further to my earlier mention of Touchable crashing with some devices, an update that apparently fixes this has just gone live. Will test it asap.
Is touchable any good? I mean, actually usable, rather than pretty?
LOLZ. I meant cracked my budget.
I know a lot of people who really like it, but I could never gel with it. For me it's a bit unintuitive. I'm sure I could learn it in time, but I didn't find it essential enough to become a part of my workflow. But out of all the controller apps I've used for Live, I definitely agree it's one of the most comprehensive out there.
As somebody who stopped using Live for two years as the UI involves a lot of MacBook trackpad clicking, I find it an essential part of my return to the Ableton way of doing things.
I tried the demo versions of LK and Conductr and they don't feel as "right" as Touchable, and don't offer as many functions. Touchable is deep, but - after a bit of getting used to - really very well designed and thought out. It really is close to being a Push 2 in an app (especially on my Pro, it feels a little crowded on my Mini 4), obviously without the physical, tactical feedback, but with much more visual information.
At the moment, there are certain things not working (and this is sadly still so in today's update)....it won't map to macros, and selecting individual devices in a rack can cause crashes. Also, it doesn't map to the Glue compressor, for reasons to do with Ableton's API I believe.
But still, for the price, it offers a lot in terms of control over drum pads, parameters, scales, devices, clips, sends, drag & drop features for devices and plugins, etc.... Much more enjoyable than mouse or trackpad clicking imo.
Thanks for the insight Tarekith & Sleepless. I see on the App page there's an further in-app purchase of "Ableton Templates", but it's not entirely clear what that is. Is it required to make proper use of the App or does the base version have everything you'd need for typical operation?
@JiggyWig I haven't gone for the template pack. It gives you more "Live-like" representations of the devices but it's not essential, in my opinion. Also, a lot of the templates are for Live's instruments and M4L devices, and I use neither, preferring to use Live purely as a MIDI sequencer & recorder for external gear.
Thanks
Like others on this thread, Touchable never clicked with me. Live's gui on the other hand does click with me. It's been tweaked for over 15 years and is pretty efficient IMO. I've just given into using Live as designed and am pretty happy with that choice.
For me touchable feels a little closer to using an instrument and I can compose easier on Ableton with it. In saying that I have been messing with 8-Track Bitwig in tablet mode with my touchscreen PC, and I am finding it even easier and more enjoyable.
