  • 9.3.4 no issues so far.

  • If you haven't already, exit Gadget and all other apps, then reboot at least once. It's always the first thing to try when something weird happens.

  • Tried, reboot and a fresh install, still happens, even if I try iTunes export. This was my main reason for buying gadget, was the ableton export. Got studiomux running sweet, now gadget let's me down. Was gonna buy a launchpad mini this week, now not sure as iOS letting me down. Any help from you gurus would be appreciated.......

  • Works fine here (latest iOS, latest Gadget). Perhaps time to update to iOS 9?

  • I really don't want to upgrade as it will kill the iPad. iOS 8.3 is sweet spot for iPad mini 2. Think I will have to mail korg direct.

Have you tried exporting to Dropbox to see if that makes a difference?

  • Thanks brambos I tried that also.
Damn, I looove gadget , but this problem is a deal breaker

If you don't mind me asking how is 8.3 the sweet spot ? The mini 2 is a 64bit device. 9.3+ is faster in every way than 8.0x for 64bit devices. You're literally wasting performance currently.

  • I use Gadget on an iPad Mini 2 running 9.3.4. No problems that I know of, and export to Live project works fine.

  • Just upgrade the iPad. 9.3 runs absolutely fine on my mini 2 as others have also said.

  • Same goodness here with iPad-mini2 and iOS 9.3.3 -- I don't have Ableton but I exported a project before and then after the Gadget update and encountered no issues.

  • Thanks again all.forgot to mention that I am jailbroken . New jailbreak doesn't seem that smooth, and I love using ifile to move my samples around. I will wait for the next gadget update. If it doesn't solve my problems, then I will upgrade.
I upgraded a iPad mini 1 to latest iOS and it runs like a snail. I only use that pad as a control surface now. That's what stopped me upgrading my main iPad mini 2

  • Ehm...

I think I've found something in Gadget that probably has been there all the time but it's news to me...

Exporting stuff (track, master, etc) to iTunes makes the exported wav-files availble to bilbao and AbuDhabi!
This is definetely something that is news to me making it possible to do 'resampling' with Gadget :D

Ah. That was your mistake. Mini 1 is a 32bit device. The best iOS for 32bit is 7.12 but even for 32 bit iOS 8 is shit. 9.3+ is faster than 8 but half as fast as 7.1.2. Speaking of moving samples around I mostly just use audio share now. Or iFunbox when connected to a desktop. Don't really miss having a jailbreak on my air2 imho.

    It's almost too easy...

    • Open your favourite project
    • Select Export -> iTunes
    • Select the tracks/channels you want to export (Master, All Tracks or Track 1,2,3 etc).

    That's about it!

All the 're-sampled tracks' are now available (using the project name) under 'User' tab in the sample selector in Bilbao and AbuDhabi :)

I found this by 'accident' after i thought, hmmm.. all the AudioPasted samples are stored in the iTunes Share Documents folder so what about exporting to iTunes and see if the exported files would be available for the Gadgets and indeed they were.

There is still no way to rename samples in Gadget or use other means than AudioCopy or Dropbox to import samples. (If Gadget starts to support 'Open In...' to import/export samples and allow rename of samples everything will get awesome as it would make integration with Cubasis easier, Audio Paste without AudioCopy.app to Cubasis works fine as Cubasis allows renaming of files, but AudioPaste to Gadget from Cubasis without AudioCopy.app gives a load of GenealBSNames).

Personally I'd upgrade to iOS 9. Sample management works fine with AudioShare and Dropbox (especially for Gadget).
But Korg does state Gadget works with iOS 8 (athough not jail broken) so if you insist on staying with iOS 8 you could contact Korg app team here: https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
I did a bug report a few weeks ago and they were responsive.

    .

@Samu Nice discovery! Gonna try it out right now

  • @Samu so you're saying that by essentially putting audio into gadgets iTunes sharing folder, said audio is then available in those two gadgets? Does this circumvent the audio length limits? Could ANY audio be put in there that way?

The 'Gadgets'(Bilbao & AbuDhabi) truncate/limit the playback length so even if you export many full length tracks only the beginning is used. All *.wav files I've tried seem to work as usual.

So yes, using iFunBox or iTunes to dump *.wav files into Gadgets folder makes them avaialbe to AbuDhabi and Bilbao. (it's the same as sending files to gadget using AudioPaste or DropBox).

Of course....now I go burrowing in the bowels it turns out I've got a thousand files there and more than 800 are called GeneralPasteboardXXX...... sigh :)

  • Oh bummer, I thought we had a bonafide cheat on our hands. I suppose it's an easy shortcut to resampling gadget stuff though.

You could use iFunBox to rename the files but it would be a real pain to 're-link' the samples to their respective programs :D

Even if this 're-sampling workaround' makes things a bit easier it would be better with proper import/export features using 'Open In...' & 'iCloud Drive'.

Also there is no way to 'trim' or 'select' what scenes get exported but it's good to know the functionality is there once Korg starts to create an UI for it... (This is one of the reasons I've requested a "Render Selection to Sample" feature, I use it all the time in Renoise and would love to have it in Gadget too...).

Now that I've found this 'trick' I would love to be able to have two Gadget projects open at the same time and quickly switch between them so I could use one document as a 'sample/loop-factory' and the other as the main composition. (Ok, It's possible to save & open, but sooo easy to forget to save when switching between projects).

Also Bilbao could for example have a 'switch' between 16-pads and '16 samples split/layered across the keyboard'.
With a few knobs for key/velocity-rages and root-notes/pitches...

Folders for User samples is also a feature I really miss in Gadget, would make organising samples a lot easier.
(Even the factory content is a bit of a mess with a / in the filename while the samples are organised in folders on the iPad).

  • @Samu I assume swiping to delete the 'iTunes exported' samples also removes the original 'exported' file from the iTunes folder, since they are essentially the same? I'd check myself with iTunes but can't at the moment.

Yepp. The file(s) is/are properly deleted.

Thanks, I like to keep my apps tidy and clean :)
Been exporting some Darwin melodies into Abu Dhabi, always a nice way to come up with new arrangements, inspiring.
    Thanks for sharing this!

I was surprised at my self and particularly as to why it took so darn long to 'find it'.
It's probably been there since day one after Gadget and AbuDhabi were released...
(I will re-read the Gadget documentation and see if there is any mention about this there).

  • @ Samu

Don't think it's mentioned explicitly in the manual.
But looking at the export section in the manual I realized the other export options: AudioCopy and Dropbox also works for this.
AudioCopy option doesn't let me rename the exported file (don't have retronyms app installed) Dropbox app does give that option. But at least these exported files have the name of the project (instead of 'general pastboard').

Yeah, and this screen-cap (dated 1st of August 2016) gives me a little bit of hope for future iCloud Support :)

It's from the Gadget Studio Guide.pdf

I hadn't seen that, only looked on page 43.
