  • with a much better sequencer and chopshop...

I'm also looking for better and more interesting fx inside of any new sampler, so tired of the same ole reverbs, bit crushers, and delays... turn the sample slicer into an effect in itself and lay some math down on that mofo, also dump a heap of midi fx on top of the sequencer.... lets get'er done already

What time does it start at?- I assume it will be either suited with USA's or Japan's time.

In my time zone it starts at 11PM on the day before (just over three hours from now):

Following that link might forward you to your time zone. When I clicked on a Europe link it forwarded me there.

    Cool! Source?

  • Just found this at their own site, but I can't find the new Boutiques...

  • The DJ-808 is the only official announcement at this point, but a number of people at the actual events are posting things on gearslutz.

Thanks for going into that cesspit of negativity so we don't have to :D

Oh actually they could be awesome!! Little mini 909 :D

  • no sampler yet?

  • That demo of the System 8 sounded really good. If I were in the market for another hardware synth, that would be under serious consideration.

    ALL THE THINGS

I'm pretty disappointed. Was hoping for a Roland groovebox.

  • Honestly I was expecting at least a few iOS apps too...

Me too @Samu........ Or rather hoping. I've stopped bombarding them emails for request of a Groovebox on iOS. All requests apparently are sent(I was told) to Japan. So the UK division cannot make that decision.

  • Not exactly 'the future redefined', but that TB-03 is hard to resist.

If it's anything like the other big company starting with Y the regional offices are purely sales-oriented and have nothing to do with product development. All they can do is forward customer requests to HQ and if those are not in 'native tongue'(Ie. Japanses) there is a minimal next to non existent chance it will ever get noticed, read or implemented...

Roland - The future resigned, thankfully we have Korg.

  • I don't know.. my tinkertable is equal parts Roland and Korg and I wouldn't have it any other way (although admittedly Korg are bit more innovative lately). B)

  • I've been saving my pocket money for this... I guess I'll be picking up an iPad Pro tomorrow.

  • Some nice gear you've got, yes, Korg seem to innovate more, they just keep coming up with fun gadgets, time after time, something where Roland keep playing catch-up. Must admit though the System-8 looks enticing.

Their mindset is very different. Korg seem to have a much more playful attitude (I have this mental image of their wacky musicioneers having a ton of fun trying out product prototypes and going apeshit over quirky unintentional features and stuff).

Whereas Roland seem to be much more the serious and aspirational types of Japanese gentlemen-musicians who still haven't fully come to grips with the fact that their instruments fell into the hands of pesky garage techno kids making weird noises. Their (digital) technology is consistently solid, however, and I really applaud them for sticking to their guns and making the Aira and JD series according to their own vision rather than following the 80s-throwback-analog trend of the rest of the bunch.

  • That AE-10 looks interesting.

  • Roland should clearly avoid the DJ market. They are so far off the mark...

So true. "The past overpriced recycled".

Edit: System-8 looks cool ,but not in my budget....
(I watched the whole video, not impressed at all)

@brambos ,I saw you have a JDXi, you should check an iOS editor (using tb midi stuff app)

  • The more I look into things like this, the more I think that we hunt for hardware as a kind of residual left-over behaviour from the caveman days of hunting and gathering actual synths because that was the only way of putting together the tool shed in order to be productive. The more I look into modern hardware revival releases, the more I think we're so lucky to have what are actually better and more capable synths sitting here on the iPad. The more I look into what's available, the more stifled I am and hours later I resign to just getting a dumb keyboard alone (then remember I've got one, I just need to actually put it here and plug it in now and then).

Actually, I have a half-finished one sitting here... I had the UI all finished, but I never finished the MIDI communication bit. I should get back to that thing when I find the time...

The thing the JD-Xi is that it is an insanely powerful synth sitting inside a simple-looking box. Just ignoring the analog voice (which is a nice bonus as far as I'm concerned) and the drums for a minute: those 2 Supernatural engines are ridiculously powerful. I'm talking Access Virus-powerful in terms of parameter depth and sculpting options.

This puts it in a nutshell. Couldn't agree more.
