Beathawk stuttering on iPad 3...any fix for this?

I know that UVI states that they recommend a iPad 4 as a minimum generation for Beathawk. However, I can use the app on my iPad 3 but the more patterns I create, instruments added, etc., the stuttering starts to kick in. Any way to help this, short of getting a newer tablet?

Also, sometimes I can export songs with no problem but other times, I get a message that says "Audiocopy only supports 44100.0of". Anyone else had this issue? I'm on iOS 7, btw.

  • I'll try to help, Rick. I see you've been around a little while, but have you optimized your iPad for recording?

  • Looks like you're not in a hurry, so I'll just leave this here.

    Here's a thread on optimization.

You can also try adjusting the audio buffer size in Audio/MIDI Preferences.

  • Oh yeah, the AudioCopy thing.

I'm guessing it's because your sample rate is set to 48000 Hz in BeatHawk and AudioCopy only supports 44100 Hz.

Is there any way to change the sample rate in BH?

Yes, sir. Also in Audio/MIDI Preferences:

    (1) Select the menu icon (hamburger) and choose
    PREFERENCES... from the list

    (2) Select the MIDI/Audio tab

    (3) Tap the Audio/MIDI Preferences [OPEN] button

    (4) Select the desired audio interface from the Device
menu, as well as desired sample rate and buffer sizes

    (5) Select the desired MIDI devices you
would like BeatHawk to listen to
    (6) Tap CLOSE when you’re finished

  • Thanks @telecharge! First thing I did was do a reboot, then went back in to the app, and the song played without the stuttering. I also was able to export to Audiocopy without changing the sample rate, but checking in preferences I discovered it was set on 44100 so that was as it should be. The buffer size is set on 256.

  • @telecharge good looking out man! Thank you.

Glad you got it sorted. If you see that AudioCopy message with any other app, check the sample rate. Not all apps give that option, though.

Happy to help when I can.

  • @RickH Also wanted to mention, as a general rule, you'll want a smaller buffer size for recording and a larger buffer for playback.

  • ...speaking of beathawk - where's that cool awesome update with sequencer coming? Gotta be soon..

  • I can't say anything apart from I wish I could say something :)
