Think we should consider a march on Washington or wherever the Holderness Compound is to beg for AU....
Truth...AU is the new baseline for errything
You should change the title all Holderness apps are $2.99 now not only Crystalline. Bundle is 14.99 for 6.
Btw any effects by Holderness that are a must have?
Only Crystaline, Johnny and Caramel are $2.99, sry.
Holderness has been quiet for a while sadly...
Yeah, Johnny was released 04/15. They've all been updated in the last few months but still. I'd like more. Hope profits aren't the issue.
That, and packaging them as universal. Not buying all that twice. So haven't bought any of it. If they went on record saying, hey we get it now, they will receive an update making them universal (assuming it would be the current iPad ones) then I'd buy as a show of support. Otherwise I'd rather buy them later at full price, but universal. That's still cheaper than buying them twice. And less app files to keep track of, backing them up to the computer. Especially now that iTunes doesn't sync the apps, you need to download them manually on iTunes on the computer later. Don't want to do that twice for every update either.
I got both versions for running two instances of each on ipad, especially Stereo Designer and Crystalline. To each his own
Precisely why I originally made separate iPhone versions, thanks for understanding and using them as intended!
I know I've been quiet for a good while, but I am still here. No ETA or guarantee on AU still, sorry.
anyway, no reason to complain: all these are top notch and worth 2 times their price
for a tremolo like Johnny you shell out a 3 figure amount for a hardware unit
these apps are at least on par woth Eventide or Strymon - no kidding
I have never been able to coax anything subtle or usable out of Crystalline. Probably user error. But I'm not buying any more FX apps that aren't AU.
I suggest backing off the mix level as well as use the low pass filtering to tame Crystalline, it has a tendency to transform the input source and completely take over, but using it for more subtle, lush ambience is actually one of it's strong points. Regarding AU it seems a bit limiting to restrict yourself to AU only apps but to each his own.
I have the full bundle, and I couldn't be happier. Thank you for your effort, I love the personality of these apps.
Picked up the bundle for ipad, which is a deal. I like the simple interface with the tutorials and also appreciate the developer videos which are informative.
To hints:
one. It's in the mix. That's the first start for subtlety.
Two. Avoid drones. Crystaline will feedback forever. (And, just like it should!)
Three: EQ. To filter out that high end that sounds like it's going to slice the edge of your eardrum off. Also, reducing down wet signal that masks/cancels original tones.
regarding lush ambiences (of the wide type) my favorite method is to 'wash' the track in Valhalla DSP's Übermod, setting Reverb TapeEcho. You may check it for inspiration as Echo Pad can't do that trick, it's pretty unique...
For Crystalline I set the mix level to 100 in the app and then mix it on a seperate track. I love it!
Great insights. Thanks.
I agree with creator on how great Johnny is. Crystalline gets all the love for it's uniqueness, but the tremolo Is really powerful and something you can't get from a basic hardware pedal. All for $5 I believe? It's my favorite after Stereo Designer, which is just an incredible tool to place tracks in a stereo mix.
The only one I haven't gotten extensive usage from is EchoPad, for whatever reason.
here is comparison of the shymmer FX in Bias and Crystalline. I think Crystalline won!

just bought crystalline and johnny. was just going to get crystalline but heard the johnny demo and jumped on it too. sounds fantastic to my ears. i had a strymon mobius and a timeline and it's ridiculous how these cost $425 less each.
I still struggle with SD being phantom etc sometimes (doesn't seem to happen to any of the others in the set), but it's also my most used 'Effect' by a distance. Which, of course, why I want AU. I want to run SD on four or five tracks at the same time....
@HoldernessMedia Thank you for the gift that is Johnny. I can fire the app up and lose two hours--not in fiddling with knobs but just playing. It sounds so good that I often find it hard to stop!
So johnny has some versatility and sounds pretty good eh?
Ok
Johnny rules
ever tried pressing the output button in johnny settings? panning mode! harmonic mode! like a $300 pedal
dev, please consider putting bpm sync buttons on tweak page, and also static midi CC assignment... cheers!
Seeing your comment was a great way to start my day, thanks!
You guys did it! (well @HoldernessMedia did it, but....)
You guys pushed me off the fence. Bought crystalline and johnny. Also, I love echo pad.
