Before you post a thread
I've been seeing this from the word go and always thought it would be nice if titles of threads were more specific. There are many threads with just a single word which basically have close to no information in them giving people no choice but to click on them to see whether they are relevant to them.
Since this forum has no categorisation as such (I.e. even if divided by categories, everything still ends up on the main page), could we try and title so one can know what does the thread pertain to.
I know this is a first word problem but it rubs me ever so slightly the wrong way. If it's all good in the hood for the vast majority of people here I'm prepared to seek personal therapy and came back as a better man but maybe just maybe we could make this forum a bit 'better'?
P.s. Maybe one of the mods here could pin a 'before you post' guide with some guidelines? Dunno, maybe I just have too much time on my hands.

You can limit the forum just to show general discussions if you want to. But what kind of suggestions do you have in mind to improve the forum?

I would also advocate for a better forum "search engine." In addition to vague thread titles, a lot of threads are redundant.
This forum is great as it is, and our hosts very graciously let us discuss just about anything. But I think a few good stickies and improved search could make it even better. How many threads have we seen about the best DAW or the best __________ ? How many threads about "Ableton Live for iOS?"
FL Studio has a great sticky about the "DAW wars" that has been around since 2009.
Every now and then threads about the same topic is quite ok, me thinks, things change.
And if an old thread comes back forwards again it's unpleasant. do you want to read up on years old stuff to reach now?
Maybe it's sound advice to search for the topic before opening a new one.
Don't need a better search, google works well.
Besides I like the chaos conversations here, it gives me random new ideas.
If you know how to use it. For those that don't, we still have to deal with their posts.
Maybe a sticky with tips on searching could address both.
@supadom I understand your point with double and doubledouble post. So as @telecharge suggests a better searchengine would be great. That said I think the forum as it's now is fine in my eyes. It has a low threshold in posting new threads and commenting. This gives it a feeling of freedom which I like. Opposite of forums with fanatic moderaters, which keep the forum "clean". Also AB forum has not that many users that it needs heavy moderation. When something really gets annoying @Sebastian is always there
Definitely better search engine is needed. I also think this forum has now matured to a point where it's no longer a big "wow" if a track is made with a certain app, etc. Songs should stay in creations section. But it's Monday so maybe I'm just grumpy.
Genre stickies where people could share their work might be cool.
It's easy look at the line in italics ...
Maybe just move to google search like this
inurl:audiob.us "sonic abuse"
?
If you are looking for combinations of words the onboard search is really shit ...
Agreed. I quit DS because of PC moderators desperate not to offend anyone at any time, even if the OP concerned was offensive.
Speaking of which, if it were possible to run an ignore list to which I could add those very few contributors whose post I'd rather not read, that would be a boon.
Double threads at the same time are no problem, just post in the smaller one
We are here > link
That usually works.
One sticky I loved was the audiobus preset sharing thread, got a few extra drum kits for funkbox out of that, would like to see a preset sharing sticky, for ab and synths etc.
I always use Google as a "search engine' for this forum. I just type in 'Audiobus Forum' , then the subject I'm looking for and voila! Search engine would be better but meanwhile....
@Sebastian
The preset sharing thread was fun. Bring it back, please.
It will be even better when ab3 gets out of its cage.
Besides it's good advertising for you and everybody else.
I could re-sticky that but stickies are something that just feels terrible to me. It's something that everyone has to read every time they open this forum. I don't think it's worth the downside.
Hm, you surely did/do some kind of data analysis on the shared presets?
I would...
Care to share some insights?
Fair enough, was nice having a resource like that though in one easy to find place, thought it added extra value to audiobus, also opened my eyes a bit to how much thought you and michael put into it, was the gift that kept giving.
Very few people actually share presets online. But a lot of our users are using presets. So ... it didn't feel worth it to keep the thread around, considering new presets were only added every other week, if at all.
Aww, that sounds so sad. Mhh, maybe we can put it in the side bar?
A: I never read stickies, on any site I always assumed they were for other people with more time.
B: Could this work for changing the Vanilla search to google custom search: http://ijotted.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/replace-vanilla-forums-search-with.html - it's quite old, so the theme hooks would need looking at to see if they still resemble that example.
C: as for one word titles, if I can't immediately ascertain why I'd want to read it, I just don't. Same on other forums where you have people post with things like "How do I solve this problem?", to which my subvocalised answer is 'supply actual information to make me want to go further' before I move on and ignore it.
Please no stickies, it does the opposite (unless it's only a short term sticky) and most people just gloss over them without realizing they're there most of the time.
For me, it becomes a rote habit to pass over familiar forum stickies, but I still appreciate their value. An alternative could be useful. Any other ideas?
At the time I was dictating my response to siri I was playing my stradivarius in a minor chord, 'an ode to the audiobus preset thread' is the working title of my song. But I was truly amazed I could get extra sounds, in my case drum kits, through the ab preset sharing system.
It made me wonder, if it could be a place we share presets sound banks too, I don't mind going the audio share route, but I like how compact and straight forward it is with audiobus. At this moment I'd take a sidebar option and probably rarely use it, just like a sticky, I had many happy moments exploring that thread the few times I did though.
This in fact is exactly what prompted me to open this thread. It is not a big deal either way but sometimes you get threads entitled 'sector' or 'pc daw' that don't really say much about the content and get omitted by many of us who have less time than others.
I'm glad the search issue cropped up again. This used to work really well couple of years ago and I used to use it all the time. Then it's gone pear-shaped. I wonder what happened?
Personally, I think bookmarks in my web browser replace the need for stickies.
Or just use the forum bookmarks.
Sounds good to me.
The Japanese part isn't running to hot either...
Good tips, but not much use to the newbie or infrequent visitor.
Much like apps themselves, discovery remains a problem.

What do you all think about a tagging system?
https://blog.vanillaforums.com/help/how-to-use-tags-tagging-in-your-vanilla-community
I hate tags and flags
It takes me more time to come up with something reasonable than to think of a banging headline ...
