Gadget help [SOLVED]

I have a simple setup: BSP sequencer and PCR keyboard MIDI controller into gadget.

Everything works fine, I can run the clock, transport bar and record in Gadget , but I CANNOT get to work on one single scene.
By "scene" I mean the horizontal track with synths loaded in.

Once the transport is external i can't select any scene. (It's either starting from beginning or nothing)
If I don't put looping function, the sequencer runs through scenes and stops at end.
Stop always resets to beginning...

What I want to do is for example record into scene no. 2 and have it looping there.

Is there something I am missing or not setting up correctly?
TIA.

  • In Ableton the MIDI clock can run in either Song or Pattern mode, I don't know exactly what that does under the counter but probably sending song position messages and such. Perhaps the BSP has a similar setting?
(Sorry I don't have one, this is just my best guess).

  • Thanks @JiggyWig ....

BSP has only clock sync and I am already happy that I can have it all running in sync...and control externally.

I was hoping that maybe there is a setting in Gadget that I missed....

  • I seem to recall having a similar same issue as you and ended up rearranging my system so that I used 'Link to Midi' to sync up my external device (the Circuit) to Gadget. This way I could play back notes on Circuit and record into any Gadget scene I wanted.

There are additional Gadget settings in the iOS settings app. Off the top of my head I'm not sure there is anything in there that will help, but maybe take a gander and see.

  • I think this is just how it works with Gadget.

One option might be using MIDI Link Sync, send MIDI from BSP to MLS and then use Link sync for timing in Gadget, you should be able to select the scenes then, but you wont get synchronised start.

This is where ModStep comes into its own, the recording will go into the selected part on an armed track.

Duh, of course, thanks Andy, you're right, I used to play more with MS<>Gadget and it used to be fine...

Thanks EVERYONE for tips. I will try also Link to MIDI, to see how that goes....
    Cheers

  • To my knowledge there is no way to select or launch individual scenes or clips via midi in Gadget. Only start, and stop. ModStep to Gadget works great, though you trade out the beauty of Gadget's piano roll and automation for ModStep's effective but perhaps less elegant equivalents.

    Indeed...

    You're welcome ;)

  • As a workaround - move the scene concerned up to be scene 1 (make sure loop is set to on in Gadget) - do your thing - then put the scene back where it was originally.

Does this work ? I thought about this but if you can't select these scenes how do you move them about ?

  • Just push and hold on the number of scene and drag up or down. You can completely rearrange the order of scenes.

I realised that but I thought you said you could not select the scene when midi synced, or did I misunderstand what you meant ?

It doesn't really matter as you have a solution, just wondered that's all. :)

Think he (or she) meant he (or she) couldn't select a scene other than the first one to start playing. I don't think you can skip ahead through the track once it's midi synced and playing.

That's different to having Gadget stopped and being able to select a scene to drag its order around.

  • Ahhh, yes that makes sense now :)
