iFretless Sax Honest review anyone?
Can't really find good info on this one, even Sir Doug's review left me a bit blank. Anyone with this app care to share their honest review about the sound realism, or lack thereof?
Comments
@MusicMan4Christ I think it's excellent. Very playable. With your current late-night-jazz obsession I think you will find much to spend your time on...
Lol!!
Thanks!
It's a good quality app like the rest of the ifretless family
a good demo of the app.
It sounds really nice. Interface excellent. All you need to be aware of is that is is geared toward the trained musician. In other words, if you can look at strings and now where to place your fingers, all is well. Otherwise, it's great when driven by other apps.
I'm having trouble with all the iFretless family crashing on launch or failing loud with bad DSP buzzing. iPad Pro 9", iOS 9.3.5. Maybe time to delete and reinstall?
Probably worth at least removing that variable. Have been playing the isax a lot in the last 24 hours with no problems at all, Pro also (12.9), but latest etc.
iFretless Sax is great even though my playing of it is still the factor holding back the beautiful music - in other words my playing sucks lol
That's your problem, when playing sax you're supposed to blow !
Well that's solved that one! Maybe I was getting mistaken in other areas of my life where I was blowing instead of sucking? Life is so complex..
Perhaps this will help ... Basic Tongue Technique
If you started playing harmonica, you can suck and blow at the same time.
I tried harmonica, i could never get the breathing right
Ifrettless sax sounds very nice, but the Brass version sounds the most natural in my opinion. Great to control Ifretless brass/sax with apps like Gestrument or Soundprism to create a more orchestral type of sound.
Nice demo liked it a lot! Thanks!
What are you doing still here? You should be off in a basement somewhere beret on head and cheroot in hand etc
Agreed. Brass is very good and I've used it on tracks. Sax I was disappointed with and it is no longer on my device.
I really, really wanted to like it but it just didn't sell me, even in a mix.
Not impressed with iFretless Sax. I'm sure it's just me.
Here is a sax impro done with this app.
@flo26 this was soooo awesome!!! I wanna play like that man.
kind of... I feel almost hurt by such software
Had an Alto in my youth (never got to any point worth mentioning), but real horns have a so much 'deeper' SOUND.
There's an italian software called sax-brothers (or so) that's very 'realistic' with a wind controller (blow, lip-pressure, pitch) and uses a special morph algorithm to melt different articulations.
That doesn't mean you can't make music with iFretless, as flo's example shows.

But that one doesn't count for it's massive amount of reverb.
You'd be stunned how a Casio DH200 sounds if washed in that kind of space
(using the crappy onboard synth, which is fully sythetic)
for reference and amusement, not related to the topic - and no, that's not me
Quick trial of the ifretless sax app in preparation (if not penance) for vast eating. Not great playing but a fair if basic representation.
I was a bit pissed off at ifreless sax when i heard the lack of realism. I use the tenor sax in thumbjam. It has a narrow note range of usable sounds but its half way passable to me in the right setting.
