Why no Kaoss pads in Korg Gadget?
I'm a novice. I picked up Korg Gadget a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. Prior to this, I have only ever used the iKaossilator for music creation. I found that to be exceptionally intuitive, but ultimately too restrictive (or maybe "loose" is a better word) in terms of songmaking and I lost interest. I also wasn't enamored with the sound bank. I much prefer the sequencer in Gadget for full song creation. However, I really miss the Kaoss pad for sketching melodies. Does anyone know why one wasn't included in Gadget? It seems to me it could easily be incorporated as an alternative view to the sequencer, which could work with every gadget. What are the chances we will see this with a future update?
Though less ideal, I could settle for a kaoss pad incorporated into a single one of the gadgets with a large sound bank, like Darwin (though I'm still waiting for an iPhone version). Does this exist in any of the in-app purchases?

I've been asking devs around here to make a kaosspad controller or add one to their apps, asked almost every synth dev, asked every midi controller app dev, even asked korg to at least give theirs midi in and out and unfortunately it just makes to much sense to implement.
The NanoKEY Studio Bluetooth hardware controller has a Kaoss style pad and full Gadget integration. (Doesn't work all that great IMO) The more cynical side for me wonders if Korg leaves it out of the the app intentionally to encourage hardware sales. Just like they've very intentionally kept MIDI transport controls totally proprietary to their NanoKONTROL Studio controller.
Anyone see a pattern here?
x/y for note input?
There are three modes
Interesting, I didn't even realize this was possible. You say the NanoKEY hardware integration doesn't work well in your opinion. Is there a stand-alone kaoss pad that might work better?
I hope Korg isn't pushing people to augment the software with hardware as you suggest might be the case. I don't know how to play a keyboard, so I don't have much use for an external controller.
Accidental double post.
I just find the pad on the NanoKey a little hard to control. I get notes where I don't and others where I do. I probably just don't have the right touch). I also thought it would be cool to have the pad instead of separate pitch and mod wheels. What ends up happening though is it requires concentration to not shift pitch while changing modulation when they're both on the same surface.
I played with a real Kaossilator one time and the pad seemed really easy to control right off the bat. The NanoKey hasn't got that same feel IMO.
I don't know what else may be out there. Pads for note input ain't my thing really.
Ok, thanks. I may have to look into such a device if it becomes apparent that Korg will not implement one into the software.
thanks for the tip, I didn't like the way it looked and don't have gadget so I disregarded it but it's got more going for it than I thought
Case in point. If I would have had to pull out a controller, hook it up to power and the iPad, etc, I probably wouldn't have answered your post with specifics. As it was, I just flipped on the Bluetooth switch and opened Gadget for a quick one-minute check.
The handiness of it can't be beat, that's for sure.
Ugh. After further attempts to use the pad for playing notes, it's totally pointless IMO. About one touch in three I get just one note, and almost never one that I was expecting. Mostly I get one very short note followed by a drop down or up to another note. And, have to keep constantly think about Y position or velocity is all over the place.
I think the pad is just too damn small to work like a Kaoss pad in practicality. I'm still glad to have the controller, but definitely not for the reasons I thought it would be cool when I bought it.
Thanks, I decided to wait until after namm and see what else is coming down the pike.
regarding bluetooth though, does blue tooth slow down any of your music apps on your iPad?, I don't use blue tooth anything so I'm just curious.
Bluetooth MIDI? No. There's a slight increase in latency over wired, but very slight.
Bluetooth Audio? Definitely
I doubt it slows down the apps really, but the latency between playing a note and hearing it makes it pretty impractical for recording or performance. Mixing maybe, but I would never bother.
I once asked the dude who makes Pxysis Minor to consider midi out, cause the playing surface resembles a Kaoss pad. That's desperation right there.
@db909 You know there is Lemur right? It´s Kaoss Pads on Steroids. I spent a few weeks coding a huge sequencer template for it, had so much fun, but then bought the Beatstep Pro. You can program whatever KAOSS functionality you can think of. It´s actually a lot of fun.
