press the record button on the bottom right to arm the recording (for external audio or resampling), then hit a pad to start recording at the next bar, then hit the pad again to stop recording to it at the next bar. You can also hit a different pad during recording, which will then stop the recording of the previous pad and start recording of the new pad.
Hey @sonicreef , I've been looking into (live) loopers of late. When I read that Looptunes is Audiobus compatible I figured that is good enough (though I could have wished for IAA compatibility too) and bought it. Now I notice it is only Audiobus compatible as an instrument, but not a recipient of Audiobus, is that correct?
What I would like is obviously to add instruments (say, Animoog) as my instrument, and route it to Looptunes to record a loop, then pick another instrument (say, Patterning) and route it to Looptunes to record another track/pad in the same (parallel) loop, that together play the same BPM and possibly make a song. This is not possible today? Will it happen? I am asking as I still can refund my purchase if it doesn't work and/or isn't in the plan.
Ideally I would also like to trigger both pad selection and record triggering via midi. Would this be coming? It should definitely be possible to do (as other apps do it).
I have yet to find an iOS app where recording many loops and instantly playing them back, and being able to control it all via midi, actually works. There are many looper apps that are excellent in audio looping but have little/no midi support. There are other apps that have excellent midi learn/control, but don't let me easily/quickly record audio loops. Looptunes looks like we are SOOOO close to achieving both. If it does, it will rule. If it doesn't, it'll just become "another app missing feature X".
This is not working for me with the onboard microphone or my headphones microphone. It says recording or res and turns a lighter shade of gray but not picking uo my incoming audio. Ill hook up my interface in a lil while and see if i can get it to pick uo audio from my actual microphone.
I bought both LooptunesHD for pad and Looptunes for phone and am really enjoying both. Is it possible to share the IAP loops between the two?
Thanks.
'res' means that it resamples (recording it's own signal). When you arm the recording, you want to press 'External' instead of 'Resampling'
I implemented triggering via midi 2 days ago, and it's coming in the next version.
It seems to be a highly desired feature to record other apps into looptunes via AB. I'm looking into that right now. Will hopefully be working soon.
there is a way, but it's not very straightforward yet. You can copy loops from the 'downloadedLoops' into the 'importedLoops' directory, using a file manager of your choosing (iTunes for example).
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I will give it a try.
@sonicreef
I purchased Looptunes hd on sale - thanks for the nice price!
I'm having very basic issues with import of loops from AudioShare:
(I tried to attach a picture from iPad but AB forum upload limits seem to have changed in the last 2days)
What the picture would show is an empty scene except one clip box is loaded with an import from AudioShare. The box next to it is outlined in red, ready to receive a new imported clip.
What's happening is that when I try to load the next box with a clip from AudioShare, the clip loads to the first box, replacing the clip I had put in there with whatever I select for that next box.
Sometimes the new clip I'm trying to add to the second box doesn't take the place of the first clip, it just makes the first clip disappear and no new clip is added in either box...
This happens no matter which new box in the grid I try to load, the clip loads to the first box. My chief use for Looptunes is to use it with the 8gb+ of clips I already own along with loops I make myself, rather than IAP loops.
I get that this import issue may be user error, please advise.
Another basic issue, each time I open the app it has defaulted to no background audio, which is inconvenient at least for my use case (in which I'm attempting to import clips from another app on the fly)
Edit: after app delete and fresh install, clips don't load from AudioShare at all...
@lukesleepwalker you seemed pretty pleased to see AudioShare added to this app, is AudioShare import working for you?
(Ps. I'm on Air 2 iOS 10.2)
Yes, I have tried External recording, and im not able to get anything. It does say REC when i press external and RES when I do resampling. I will try again some more tonight.
it's a known issue. There is already a new version with a fix for it, waiting for approval in the App store (which is closed between 23rd and 27th). Should be any day now.
@sonicreef
Thanks, that good news. Sorry for the double post I didn't see the problem mentioned in the thread here.
Has anyone had any luck controlling this with a Launchpad (s or mini).
Can you add a resampling option in stead of timestretching ?
Time stretching a hiphop beat to DnB speeds erm no, resampling (like playing up n down the keys on an old sampler) oh yeaaah
Without that feature it is way less useful for drums than it could be.
I don't understand. You can accomplish all that in Looptunes.
So a loop will change speed without time stretch, in sync with link ?
My mistake.
AS issue fixed in coming update . Really enjoying this app. AS is a must have !
Here's my first request. On an iPhone When selecting loops online, it is too easy to select the wrong one, and there goes your loop credit. There is no way to undo a wrong selection which is kind of a bummer cause you use up your purchased or free loop credits on loops you didn't want.
Can you somehow make the loop selection not too close to the loop preview arrow ? If it is too close if you dont exactly hit the arrow, than it assumes you want that loop and it erroneously selects it.
Also, for left handed people as me, could you have an option in the menu to have the loop selection preview arrow be on the left side of the screen on the iPhone? I havent checked the iPad, but will do.
Thanks for such an awesome looper!
currently, it’s more of an informational mode, and for imported or downloaded loops, you can double or halve the number of bars, in case it got estimated wrong.
I’m planning to add more cool features in this mode in the future.
I’m left handed too. Thought it might be ok to have the preview on the right side.
Can we take a poll? Do you guys prefer the preview on the right side, left side, or doesn’t matter?
I’ll widen the preview a bit as well.
Thanks, maybe an option to select like an on off switch in the menu, so you don't have to choose either, unless it takes a lot of recoding than I'm ok with it. But i dont like selecting the preview and accidentally choosing unwanted loops with the palm of my left hand. I'm holding the iPhone with my right hand, i select the preview loop with my left hand point finger, but my left hand palm accidentally touches the screen, then the wrong loop is selected. There's no way to undo once the selection has been made. Can this be changed?
@Flexinoodle means an option to toggle between time-stretch or pitching down/up like a tape/vinyl when changing the bpm.
Don't know if it's been asked but double tapping on the sliders would be nice to have them return to default. Right now there's no visual number to see where the slider is at. Thanks!
can i put the looptunes in the channels output slot in AUM, and have a synth on the same channels input slot to record audio in?
No. Currently Looptunes works as an Audiobus instrument, only. You sadly can't route to it as an audio destination (which is my primary use case with any looper type app). Note as well that IAA isn't listed amongst features (though also on my wish list), it is currently only listed under Audiobus (as an instrument, only). This excludes AUM too.
aww that stinks. i hope they will add it as an audio destination. that seems to be an issue with a lot of this style app.
any devs listening, please make these looper type apps be an audio. destination. thanks
Blocs Wave works but I hope this one also gets it.
working on it, as we speak....
Sending notional coffee as I type
@Sonicreef, impressive effort on your part implementing everything suggested here, so I've just purchased Looptunes to thank you for your work. Nice to have another dev happy to be so involved on this forum. Thanks
