I agree with the sceptical points of view here. I listened to a few seconds of most of the tracks (of u0421793 list at the beginning of this topic), and I didn't like what I heard at all. To me it is all the same stupid beats and showing off toughness with so-called interesting looks and moves.....whooo I am impressed. These tracks are all the same and definitely won't stand the test of time. They sound and look depressingly empty to me.

it is just not my piece of cake. Thanks for making this list, it gives me the opportunity to put into words what I dislike about the mainstream popmusic nowadays.
I think I should have restricted it to a top four, rather than try to fill out a full ten.
The reasoning behind the suggestion was that the ones I mentioned were in my opinion just an increment above what was needed to put a song into the charts. The few had something about them that'll keep them being remembered in future years, and people will still think it was only a few months ago when it was actually quite some years ago.
Okay, then, you solve this problem. How does one post a post whilst retaining any form of credibility that one thinks this was a turn-around year for Justin Beiber to be taken seriously?
I also think the Zara Larson and Rihanna contributions are more noteworthy than they are throw-away, and to a lesser extent, the Ariana Grande piece. There's something more in there than is required (or do I mean a carefully designed less), and I think this puts them above the normal run of the mill outputs that falls off the conveyor belt each year.
No you ain't. Most mainstream is focused on teenagers which make you feel like an old fart. I don't think you missed much the past 10 years of pop music. I try to listen to the radio everyday and it all sounds the same for years.
Appreciate the thought, brutha, but I really dunno. Was driving my teenage daughter around yesterday, she puts on a song, and I'm like WHOA. I am no prude, but the lyrics to this were (at least to me) inappropriately sexually explicit - I say shut this off, this ain't right, where'd you get this, she says relax dad, all my friends listen to it (something/someone called "Gambino," apparently), don't be ridiculous.
Maybe it's just generational, my folks didn't at all like what I listened to as a teen, but dang, this new stuff. Or maybe I really am an old fart!
One of the great things about the atomization of pop music in the Internet age is that no one's list can actually be criticized. I personally think it's silly to dismiss an entire genre of music. Ian's pop selection reminds me how thrilling it is to be into pop music when you're young.
These are all songs that made me listen two or three times because I heard something new.
@RulesOfBlazon I think you're talking about Childish Gambino. That's the rap persona/stage name of comedian Donald Glover whom you may know from the American TV show "Community." There's also a new show he created titled "Atlanta" that has gotten rave reviews.
Growing up, my local radio station never censored "Who Are You?" I think we had it better.

I know I first heard "gangsta rap" as a teeny bopper and giggled accordingly. That's how most kids are with things considered taboo.
